You could've sent them to me ......

And i agree with Dave, don't do #700s. They are way too stiff. You want soft springs then use valving to stiffen things up if need be. For reference, I run #600 springs.

Ignore Gid, he drives a 4 banger with a piece of tube for a bumper.
NEVER EVER listen to Dave...

Was your buddy's name Max? It looks like it'd survive a trip to the TunderDome….:D

Also, I have 700# coils and am glad I have them! You should only get 650# coils if your a mall crawler that wants to look good going over the curbs, and 600# coils are for wussies with little trucks and crawl boxes to afraid to hit the trail hard when the skinny pedal is needed...:p

Is 700 too much? Even with the winch and mildly heavier bumper?

And I would have sent them to you Gideon if I knew that was an option! Better yet, next time you need to travel 2 hours to my house and rebuild them with me so I can see how its done....teach a man to fish ya know

Very true words. and no, not Max. Although I did go riding with him a few times.

With my front bumper its about 110lbs + Winch 80lbs, + Reinforce steel skids. I like the 700#s, truck handles good on roads, and off. You could probably stuff your tire more with lighter coils, but with 35s, I'm not as concerned with how far I can stuff the tire. They already run into the firewall before I run out of compression.

The short answer is yes. Free length and preload play a role in this as well, but 650 should be pretty ideal for your setup. If you didn't drive on the street I might even suggest 600s. You're much more of a finesse driver than Mike who tries to bounce his truck as much as his rev limiter. The wheel should move freely up and down through it's entire travel, while the shock keeps it under control from going too fast in either direction. Springs are used to achieve the amount of lift you want, not keep you from hitting the bumpstops. The bumpstops are there to do a job, let them. If you're hitting things while compressing the springs, you have clearancing to do.

I'd be happy to rebuild a coilover with you and show you how it all works.

As for the spring rate ..... I generally don't suggest things unless I'm confident I'm suggesting right. I've talked about this a bunch of times before. Dave is pretty spot on. Most people don't care how their coilovers perform for multiple reasons including: they only care about ride height, no matter how they're tuned its gonna be better than stock and they can say they have cool expensive parts on their truck. All of those are fine reasons and I don't see anything wrong with not caring for more knowledge past those reasons. But folks don't ask me so I can tell them what they wanna hear and I'm certainly not gonna tell you bullshit just so you feel good about being wrong. Haha

I just skimmed the first post, sounds kinda cool. Make your own adventure type of deal

~1300 miles one way for me tho. That would be a haul. We'd have to find somewhere along the way to crash for the night.

I would definitely like to pour one out for a fellow air filter KIA though..

I had 700# springs with Pelfrey hybrid bumper, and Smittybilt X2O with synthetic line, and I thought it was too much. Went to 650 and now its perfect.

@Skierrichy Im not sure. Im trying to drive to Seattle, WA in 2021 summer
