I'm glad I'm out of AK right now or I'd be tempted to snatch that one out from under ya haha. I think I'm gonna hold on to mine until next summer though.

I think about selling mine once or twice a week to get a second gen. Only because I'm worried about the rust on my frame. I think I could sell mine for close to what I paid for it. It's actually appreciated since I bought it last summer according to KBB. Theres 2008 on there for 17.9 with 48k miles on it. Seems like a good deal but probably a reconstructed title.

How badly is your frame rusting? Do you have any sort of undercoating or anything? I was surprised to see mine has almost zero rust..

No undercoating. I have no idea if the previous owner ever got it inspected by toyota. When I first heard about the frame rust issue I called toyota to get it inspected and they said they were going to charge me $100. I was positive we are allowed one free inspection per year so I asked the guy and he kept saying he had never heard about a frame rust/recall issue so I was pretty pissed and stubbornly never went in.

My rust isn't that bad, really. Just surface rust. But around the front leaf spring hanger it is pretty flaky...I need to do something about it but have no tools or any idea of how to tackle that problem. When I get new suspension all the way around I will try to clean it up the best I can, but I think it would be best to coat it in an anti-corrosive spray or something.

Also, the PO of my truck had it in Nome for the first 4 or 5 years of owning it. So it was subjected to the beach/salt air from the very begining of its service life. And I doubt he washed the undercarriage often...

I think you are correct about the one free inspection each year but i could be wrong. I remember you mentioning your truck lived in Nome for a while which would explain the rust i believe. I know up here we use a different type of ice melt on the roads but im not sure how a truck frame holds up to it.. since i dont have much surface rust even im going to assume the stuff they use isnt nearly as corrosive as salt..

Yeah I didn't think they used any salt at all up here. But last winter I remember having some salt residue on the side of my truck, so who knows :notsure: I'm hoping Toyota will do a truck by-back like they did for pre-2001 trucks but I doubt that will happen if they had the frame replacement program already happen. :( I'm just pissed I didn't get any sort of notification in the mail from Toyota telling me to go get the frame inspected.

You may be right.. i know they dont use salt because it turns the roads into a big salt lick and collisions with moose skyrocket. I really wish i got something from toyota too.. since i have a '99 and my VIN falls into the recall/buy back range :( not a big deal since it wouldnt fail inspection but still... who knows

Lol. Yup! Although I'm not sure anything over 4-5 inches of lift will fit. So if your throwing some Fabtech 6" kit on, you'll never be able to get out. Haha. Not sure, the door to me seems kind of low it could be just because I suck at measuring things with my eyes.

Just a suggestion to maybe keep things a tad organized but should keep meets and trail run discussions here and other chat in the other thread. Sometimes long conversations overrun meet ideas that people then miss the info for.

They use an ash and dirt mix on he roads here. Makes a slurry and is still just as corrosive as salt.

Ben- have you noticed any more boulders blocking access to the 100th trail? I can't imagine they didn't see the other access point to the right there.

Nice, I thought about gettng a wench but I rarely off road. My buddy parked his jeep in my back yard and I had to use the wench to pull back a tree. It came in very handy

I have a 2006 manual sport. The clutch is weird. It is like driving a car. However, no problems with it. Shifts great. Love the manual transmission.

On another note, how will I be able to find you guys on wednesday? Someone going to have a big AK Tacos sign or something? :D
