    I just got a '14 2.7 base model 2WD 5-speed and there's no owner's manual in it. It just turned 89k miles.

    1) Is there a big service scheduled at 90k?
    2) What parts of it do I need to check for real?

Here's my skill level: above-average level motorcycle maintenance and repair but extremely basic cage (4-wheel car or truck) experience. I can rebuild the top end and carb rack on a bike but the most I've done with a truck beyond oil changes is new ball joints and AC compressor.

I am lost looking at most of the threads here, I don't know what they're about or if they even apply to my truck. I don't know the acronyms. I'd appreciate some timely PMCS or preventative maintenance tips.

If nothing has ever been done, I’d opt for

    spark plugs
    Coolant
    Transmission fluid
    Rear differential fluid
    And serpentine belt

Call it a day and carry on your way.

Also, You can get the Owners and Service Manuals - Free from the Toyota Website.
Google - “Toyota Owners Manual” the Toyota site should show up.
Choose your year and model, then download the manual.

And if your truck has a cabin filter, definitely check it.

Cabin filter is in the glove box, your transmission takes oil change on a schedule like the motor and the axle.

Yes, although the proper term is “gear oil”

It filters the air inside the truck.
It’s usually located behind the glove box.

If you download the Owners Manual, it is in there Under Air Conditioning Filter.
It even shows you how to change it.

OK gotcha. I need the specs on this. My bikes are unit construction: the transmission is in the same body as the motor so one oil change does it all. I'll dig into the manual download and hope it tells me what to do.

Would a Haynes manual be a good idea? Or is it all pretty much straight-forward without the book?

Yeah, same process for any manual, and same oil for the 5 speed. Just way more 4.0 6 speeds on here so it was easier to find.

As for Manual Trans oil, I put Redline MT-90 gear oil in my 2.7 Tacoma 5 speed and it smoothed it out a good bit.

You'll need 2.3 qts. for the 5 speed and a 24mm socket or wrench (preferably 6 point, the plugs are half height and round off easily).
