Thanks. Definitely not expecting that. I've just got my truck back after 3 weeks and barely in the break in process of my 488s. Just my bad luck or karma I guess

Holy hell. Bouncing tires can be deadly. Good reaction time bro! Good luck with the move.

Will do. I just got a quote and they said they can get it done by Thursday before I leave. $1300 total. I'll get some soon. I went to AutoZone and picked up a mirror so that way I can still drive it around safely till I send it in

Did you get your gears REM polished? I've heard that eliminates the whole breaking in/having to take it back in to check the gears and re-do fluids after the break in period? reason for asking is I plan on doing gears next summer on my cross country trip back east from CA and im trying to prevent having to do the 500 mile break in period and then have the gears/fluids checked again...

I didn't, I'm getting the oil changed in the morning. I've had the truck since Friday and drove 500 since lol. I drove really slow everywhere also making sure to give it sufficient cool down periods. I move to Montana Thursday so I was on a time crunch to drive the 500 miles.

but did you look into REM polishing to prevent having to do the break in? @JerryTaco just had his Nitro gears done by @SDHQ OFFROAD who does the REM polishing basically eliminating the need for the break in/fluid change and check afterwards... just trying to get all perspective of gears before and after so I can plan accordingly... I'm planning on having SDHQ do my gear install which will take about 3-4 days and then hoping to get back on the road to finish moving back east lol a lot of money going into gears so I want to make sure I cross all the "T's" and dot the "I's" lol

Honestly, I didn't even know that was a thing. The shop had a hard enough time just doing the install. They are great fabricators and mechanics that mainly work on Jeeps. I was their first 3rd gen regear so it was a learning process for them. I would do that route instead. How much of a difference in price is it?

from what Jerry was telling me its only a few hundred bucks extra... I read up on it and they basically polish the gearing teeth to an almost mirror like shine/smoothness which eliminates the break in gears from having the small shavings from initial break in friction... you can read up on it from people/articles who actually know what they're doing lol im just paraphrasing but from the sounds of it @JerryTaco is loving his install and had @SDHQ OFFROAD install em which I trust those guys and have bought things from them in the past when I had my raptor and loved their customer service!

Sounds like it would be worth it my opinion. Especially when you are driving cross country. Break in process sucks. I hate driving slow and getting passed up by grandmas

This! Yeah the REM polishing is the only way to go. I honestly knew nothing about it and they tool the liberty of getting it done before I even committed to the project. But instead of the gears having a rough finish, these things are shiny and smooth as can be. I absolutely trust SDHQ and their install was flawless, not a single issue. They do a fantastic job of employing true professionals with exceptionally high standards, so trusting that the job will get done right is easy. As for the trucks performance with the new gears, night and day, truthfully. The struggles I had with the factory gearing are long gone. Plenty of torque and power to spare now. Even with a winch, 34 inch tires, sliders, skids, gear and rtt, the truck gets about 16.5 17 mph, even better, up go 19 with the tent off. Honestly worth every single penny spent.

I don't know that REM polishing is a widely known process, but it makes total sense and certainly eliminates a lot of headache
