Going through photos from the trip still.
Sometimes the fall colors were difficult to photograph, so we improvised...

Went on a trip up through the eastern Sierra Nevada two weeks ago. We had some unfortunate things happen (Timmy's rear end started clicking so no 4wd trails and it was freezing cold so limited high-altitude fishing and camping), but ended up enjoying ourselves nonetheless.

First day was just prepping in Santa Barbara and then we drove up towards Bishop. Ended up stopping at Alabama Hills for the night since it was dark. It was really cool to drive in in the dark with just the occasional glimpse of the rock formations from Timmy's lights and then wake up to the craziness around us!

The next morning we drove around the area a bit before getting back on 395.

The Sierras are really stunning with some actual snow to live up to their name!

We then headed north towards a wheeling trail through the southern White Mountains but Timmy had a clicking sound so we diagnosed that on the side of a road and ended up pulling the rear driveshaft. :( We made the most of it, though, and took the paved road up to the Bristlecone Pine forests.

Drove down through Silver Canyon. Quite the descent!

With a treat at the bottom! This guy just meandered past us after we stopped and waited for him to finish getting his drink at the stream crossing.

After exiting the canyon we wandered around in search of a camp site and settled in the sagebrush near some trees in the dark.

Woke up to the sunrise on the eastern Sierra Nevada:

And a friend! Not really his type of habitat (no cactus) but he seemed to be enjoying himself

Went through Bishop, stopping at a fly shop for some flies, and headed up to North Lake, Lake Sabrina, and South Lake for some fishing and fall colors.

Those clouds came in and ended up sending a few bits of frozen precip down as we were fishing. Fishing was good, though! I had only caught one fish while fly fishing before and this time I caught a half-dozen or so. Thanks, Timmy!

From there we went to the Buttermilk country bouldering area to camp for the night.

We went to the Lower Owen's for some fishing that afternoon. I had one grab but otherwise the fish were *not* biting, which was unfortunate. That evening we headed up to a camping area just above the Owen's River Gorge known as "The Pines."

Because it was Thursday, Timmy decided to head home early so he could pull apart the rear diff, diagnose, and order anything he might need on Friday to get the ball rolling on whatever was the problem. It was unfortunate but so it goes.

I was originally thinking of saving Laurel Lakes for another trip, but when I saw these fall colors leading up the valley towards the lakes I couldn't resist! I also don't know when I'll be able to make another trip out there in the fall, so I wanted to take advantage while I could. It was phenomenal!

Found a solitary grebe species out there! Poor guy kept looking around for friends.

Afterwards I found out that many complain about this switchback. It was kinda exposed, sure, but I made about a 5-point turn and was fine... :notsure:

Also rather cold...my thermometer said 27*F when I got out and the condensation on the inside of the campershell froze.

:) that's the one. Big old bottle of wine, and a guy with a shiny little box in his pocket waiting for the right moment to pop the question.

Man, your entire trip is bringing back so many memories. We haven't really explored the Owens Gorge itself much, but everything else if like an old pair of jeans. I'll be showing this to wifey later.

Did a family trip out to the mud caves, diablo drop-off, and split mountain (fish creek wash) in Anza Borrego today. It was the same trip that I've done at least twice now, but it was fun with family! Perfect weather out there, too. Warm in the sun and cold in the shade! A few photos to come...

Haha, yup, same route that we did. We found another cave this time that was tighter and longer than the ones that you and I explored and I think I had told you that it was a dead end when you were there. I thought for sure it was so I was surprised when we checked it out this time and it wasn't! Sorry you missed out on that one! Guess you need to come back :D

Thanks! I've been incredibly lucky to be able to do these trips. Such a blast!

Just returned from a trip to Panama! Adding even more photos to the pile of things to go through...

I've had weird driveline vibes that developed after I did all the work on the wheel bearings and steering knuckles, so I was worried that I did something wrong. Now I'm thinking that it's because I had removed the front diff spacers, increasing the cv axle angles. I put the spacers back in today and so far the vibes seem to be gone, but I've only driven a couple miles to test it. We'll see what some freeway and 4wd driving brings, but I'm optimistic.

Tested the winch to make sure the smittybilt solenoid hasn't corroded yet. Still works like a charm, so the sealing job that I did on it seems to be working!

Thanks, guys! Got a few more photos to go through now after an Anza trip last weekend. Went up rockhouse canyon road past clark dry lake, then out to the borrego badlands to camp and get some excellent sunset, star, moon, and sunrise photos!
