Hello all. Having a problem with the motor, it starts and idles fine but when I take off it sputters and spits from about 1500 rpm and up.if I floor it it will eventually kick in but it sounds like crap.my first thing I did was fuel filter and new ngk v power plugs, cap and rotor looked new.no change, sprayed carb clean on intake,no leaks found.no codes either.cleaned air flow sensor also.hooked up my scanner and w engine off watched the tps and it only goes up to like 70 percent when floored w ignition on but motor not running.could it be a bad tps?shouldnt it go to 100 when wot?any help would be great.thanx

you've done some good work to try and fix it.

don't know how many miles you have on it, but did you check the air filter?

Check for clogged cats and clean your MAF. The little wire in there gets clogged up with gunk and sends bad signals. Also, in the air box is a sensor for air temp, just replace it. Its cheap and my truck ran so smooth once I did. You may have damaged both of these items if it was in a wreck and the box got messed up. Also, check your O2 sensor, 50/50 chance of a code if gone bad. You said you changed your plugs, cap and wire but did you replace the coil too? They go bad sometimes.

    tough one

It almost sounds like a bad plug or one of the cylinders not firing correctly.

about 20 years ago I had a Chevy that had the exact same symptoms. I had changed the plugs approximately 1000 miles before the problem occurred so I did not consider that the new plugs could be the problem. I was stumped and looked over every possibility.

Turned out that I had replaced my "normal" plugs (with the large center electrodes) with platinum plugs (which have a very fine center electrode)...one of the platinum plugs had fouled up and was no longer firing. I replaced those platinum plugs with regular plugs and never had a problem with misfiring again.

I'm not saying that this is your problem, but maybe one of your new plugs or wires might be defective. Who knows?

I'd also check timing (and make sure the distributor adjuster bolt is tight), spark plug wires for arcing, and any cracks/air leaks in the intake plumbing.
