In an effort to get all the neat bits & oddities that are the 95.5 of the 95.5 picture forum ....
Here’s a running thread dedicated to just that!

    To start it off:

I didn’t realize till the last few days that 95 2.4s have distributors, while soon afterwards, Toyota switched to coil-packs.
I was used to coil packs, where one could go bad & you could limp home on 3 cylinders. When a distributor goes, you get no-go (& it looks & feels like the loss of a fuel pump/system).

As a preventive service it is wise to replace the rotor after 200k miles. Or at least inspect it for worn contacts or cracks from the age. The rotor is quite cheap and it is the only moving part that might mechanically go wrong.

Having had some issues with mine and a mis-fire that seemed fuel related it sucked. The shop I had work on it when I was at wit's end ended up finding some corrosion on a few sensor leads. They cleaned them and it has been running pretty good ever since.

Good call, you'd be surprised how much a cap and rotor can wake these old beasts up if it hasn't been changed, essentially allows the computer to start advancing the timing more )more power) if the contacts aren't fouled out from age and wear

Go it from first hand experience on my father's Opel. Rotor disintegrated destroying the whole distributor. 7 dollars rotor can cost you 500 dollars to replace the distributor.

    Yup
The Toyota distrubutor lists at over $600, with “specials” of 400-450.

    (I just bought one)

tartan jack, do you have a pic of the bugshield/hood protector you were talking about for the '95, not sure if you were wanting to unload it or not from the other thread mention.
My destroyed one is sitting outside under the snow on a tire, no pic yet of the damage done to it on the passenger side

While you guys are on the topic of the distributor, my Dad's 95 2.7 the coil went bad. He was driving at maybe 5mph down his driveway and it just went stone cold dead. Never fired again. Just FYI if you get that symptom.

Here it is. Wish this thing was in better shape, but the options are still legible.

I also have this kicking around. I am going to scan some other literature I have as well, but couldn’t resist snapping some shots of this one!

Fun fact. Toyota changed from the distributor to coil packs mid production year for the 97s. I've had both in 97 4cylinders

I will say, imho, that a couple of exterior aesthetic 'improvements' made over the early 90s trucks that I much liked were the lower profile of the 3rd top brakelight enclosure and the xtraCab rear side windows, a co-worker at the time had a '93 xtraCab and his window was elongated a bit too much for my liking so that is why I got a slightly used (1500 miles) '95 single cab (preTaco) the xtraCab Tacoma at the time (as far as I recall) was more than 10grand of what the single cab was

Agree with you, but I sure would like to have some wing (vent) windows on my 95! They were dropped withe the new body.
