Looking to swap my 96 steering wheel for the is300 wheel and rav4 airbag. I know they likely have different connectors/ clocksprings. Anyone attempted this?

Not a direct swap on the pre 01 tacos. @Speedytech7 did it. Biggest issue is the cruise control.

I figured out you can swap the stalk arm to the other body so it all still looks right but the switches work too.

That’s what I thought. The issue is the stalk on the Tacoma is too short. The IS300 one is four inches longer.

That's not what I meant, I'm talking about actually taking the stalk assemblies apart and swapping their parts

Tried that. They’re still really different, the only way to make that work is swapping the resistors from the Tacoma stalk.

The pivot pin is the same, don't see what it wouldn't work. Gonna have to do it again. Can't stand the stock wheel on these trucks, too bulky and I could care less about the airbag.

The button casings are slightly different and doesn’t allow for the earlier style to work.

No cruise on mine, is it straight forward or something to avoid all together?

You may need the clockspring from the Lexus too for your 96. I dont know for sure. My 04 was just a matter of unbolting the old wheel and putting the Lexus wheel on.

Yeah for the airbag to work you definitely need at least the plug from an 01 or newer Tacoma. If you weren't worried about it you could probably just solder one on your existing clock spring in about 2 minutes. But modifying an airbag circuit is sort of a no no

If the airbag squib doesn’t plug into your stock one, you might need the Lexus one. The plugs should be identical.

96 has the older style turn and wiper stalks. I dont know if the clockspring even mounts up like ours

I know 98+ the IS300 clock spring is completely identical, even the data plug. Only the IS300 clock spring has more data pins for the shift buttons.

I can’t even find a picture of one, but 95.5-97 had one piece wiper and turn signal stalk thing. And it’s all one connector if I remember right, chances are the clock spring mounts up different
