    Aloha Tacoma owners,

I have a 95.5 Tacoma 3.4 Automatic that has a gauge cluster without a tachometer. I want to install one that has a tachometer. I have seen a previous thread about someone doing it on a 98. But I want to know is can I use any cluster from a gen 1 Tacoma for my 95.5? and if so is it just plug play or do I need to run something to my engine to get a working tachometer and trip meter? I really appreciate any help!

    Mahalo

1995-1997 has a mechanical cable driven VSS.

    1998-2004 has an electronic VSS.

Therefore you need to find a cluster from a 1995-1997 truck with the cable driven cluster. You cannot use a cluster from 1998-2004 as they are electronic.

Ok sweet, I have found one from a 96, so is it just plug and play? or do I need something else to get the readings from the trip meter and the tachometer?

Should be plug-n-play. Just make sure they're both mechanically driven. Pull the cluster out and look for a metal cable.

Your mileage will obviously be different between clusters. You could probably swap the modules so the correct mileage follows.

Is it possible to just swap the odometer piece?

It is on 98-04. Unsure of 95-97.
