Hey guys I’m looking for some e lockers for my taco. It’s 4wd with 4.56 gears in it and used to have full posi in it until on they way back from picking up a bike 700+ miles from home the drain plug in the rear fell out ( no it was not my fault). Anyway the ring and pinion are for sure toast and I’ve been wanting to put a locker in it to make it safer for a while. Any suggestions on e lockers, I don’t mind spending a good chunk of change as long as it’s worth it. Thanks

The harrop like mentioned above or find a complete used rear axle out of a trd tacoma.

I'd still vote for a good ol fashioned air locker

    Harrop over TRD or ARB?

I don't like the weird self locking and unlocking behavior the harrop has, and the TRD locker is just a weakling. ARB or a Yukon ziplocker would be my vote

Well, the OP said lockers instead of locker so I assumed both front and rear.

If only rear, whatever the OP desires though an axle housing swap would be the cheapest (and easiest).

If both front and rear, I'd want to go Harrop.

Though a ton of people run air and prefer that route.

Big brain says "while you're in there..." might as well go 40s n tons :burp:

    TJM over ARB.

If it's between ARB and Harrop, I rather run Harrop over ARB. No stupid compressor taking more space elsewhere. I have buddies running Harrop with 35 and 37 without any issue.

The front and rear were full posi but I figured with the situation that I’m in it would be safer to put a e locker in the rear(it’s still manual locking hubs). As far as price goes, it looks like the air lockers are cheaper but I still need to get a compressor. I like that e locker axle swap but I still have to change the ring and pinion. I wish I could do a axle housing swap which I suppose I can if it has 4.56 gears in it. I appreciate the input

You mean you were running lunchbox lockers? Front and rear?

As for air and electronic, they end up costing about the same in the end. Electric has a higher initial cost for the locker itself, but is offset by the install requirements/prerequisites almost when going with air.

Why not focus on a selectable locker in the rear since that's where your issue is and address the front at a later point if/when needed?

Yeah that was kinda my plan. I think I’ll go with a e locker. Do you guys know of anyone that will put everything together or any rebuild kits that I can get and how difficult it really is to get the backlash set correctly. Thanks

1995.5 is the first year of the Tacoma.

All 1st Gen Tacoma's have the same front diff (95.5-04)

My bad, rear axle. Is the rear axle a 7.5 ifs. I only plan on messing with the rear and leaving the front posi. Since it’s manual locking hubs I should be fine

Maybe in the future I will make the front an air locker but for now it’s staying posi

So I should be looking for a 8.4’’ since it didn’t come with an e locker form factory correct?

I just realized what I said. The axle code says it’s a 8” ring gear. It was B03A

IIRC, all first gen came with an 8" elock or 8.4" nonelock. And 8"elock wasn't an option until 98 if memory serve me correctly. Only 4R came with open 8".
