Hey maybe you guys can help me out here, I’ve unleashed the parts cannon on my truck.
A few weeks ago I was decelerating coming off the freeway, when the motor just turned off. Now it just cranks with no start. At first we thought it wasn’t getting spark (we tested with a faulty spark test bs kit) so we put in a new distributor, and cps. It gets fuel (the plugs we pulled were stinky boys), spark, and compression (thumb tested). Any ideas fellers?

a motor will run if it has air/fuel at the correct ratio, compression and spark at the correct time. seems like you have covered everything except is the air/fuel ratio correct and is the spark at the correct time. might try a gas soaked rag over the intake to externally introduce fuel to see if it runs for a couple seconds. did it make any noise when cut off. Could have jump a tooth on the timing belt or broke the belt.

It didn’t make any noise that I could really hear. The main pulley turns when cranking, so the chains definitely not broken, I wonder if there’s a good way to see if the timing is aligned without pulling the cover? We also sprayed starter fluid in there and nothing happened, there’s definitely gas getting to the plugs. I could smell it on them when they’re pulled

the starter turns the crankshaft, the main pulley is mounted to the crankshaft so it will turn even if the chain is broken but the cams will not turn which in turn keeps your valves from opening and closing. When you did the thumb test did you feel it both negative and positive pressure on your thumb?

And if you are dumping to much fuel it will not start either. Try the old carburetor trick and hold the gas peddle to the floor and crank and crank if it is flooded it will finally start

I’m not actually sure how to tell, it blasted my thumb out of the hole when it turned. Will that gas pedal trick work if it’s not carbureted?
