My grandson inherited my `95 w/V6 4x4 about 6 years ago. Recently had a engine work done (225K miles +/-)(I don't know what lead up to a failed head gasket; new head, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, radiator, . . . ). He is saying the temp gauge is running up higher than normal. What are the possible problems? Where is the sending unit that transmits the signal the gauge on the dash? All thoughts welcome and appreciated . . . .

The gauge is a dummy. Might be best to get a digital reading to know the actual temperature.

How long since the top end was rebuilt? Possible air pocket in the cooling system?

IIRC, the temp gauge sensor is located by the firewall, on the lower intake manifold. It’s a single wire and a pain the ass to access.

I recommend turning on the heater to cycle coolant through the heater core and try to bleed the block. Not saying that’s your issue but if there’s trapped air, it will cause what he’s experiencing.

Will a bubble burp out through the coolant overflow tank?

    Not all the time

There’s claim that if the thermostat is at the 12 o’clock and not 6, the temp will increase.
