96-04 Elite Off Road Plate bumper

is it minor cutting?

 

well i'm going to need to find a 98 to take a look at. i had someone measure all the mounting points on a 98 and they are the same distances so unless the frame sticks out a lot farther thats the only thing i didn't check. i'm going to find a 98 to look at in person and figure out what there is different in the frame and see what can be done

 

In all fairness, I am recalling from 1999 when I replaced the bumper on my '98 with a TJM. It was designed for a '97. I recall using a sawzall to cut off the very front ends of the frame, about 2-3" as I recall. Toyota had made a change from earlier models to accommodate new airbag functions in the '98 model. At least that is what was written on forums at the time.

Your '99 maybe be different again from '98 but reading that 1welder also had to cut off the frame ends reminded me of what I had to do back in the day. It may be a '98 model thing only. Not sure now.

I've been checking this bumper out for a while and I feel that I need to compliment you on it. This is by far the best looking plate bumper out there. If I had the $$$ I would get one right now! Hopefully I can save a little cash for one. Any chance your coming out with a rear bumper for the 95-04's?

thanks a lot man. i will defenetly be doing a rear bumper as soon as i finish up all these orders and have time. i was looking to do it a lot sooner but things are a little backed up right now. hopefully i'll be able to get a rear bumper out soon.

 

on my truck it had the frame horns stuck out too far to mount the bumper. it also has a light weight cross member that has three holes in it for the front bolts on the skid to bolt up up to. the three tabs that are on my RF bumper run right into the cross member, it has to come out also. so you have to cut 3-4 inches off yout frame horns and cut the cross member out. then around on the fender wells you have to cut some of the fender well and unbolt two brackets that hold that fender well in place. took three guys to install mine. sounds harder then it really is. i get real nervous when im workin on my truck, i tend to go REAL slow so you can imagine how long i thought about cutting the frame and such!!

 

is this the case for 98-00

 

so the only thing i see different is cutting the frame horns off since the other year 1st gen's dont have those

edit: these pics are pissin me off! i put my iphone on the large format and everytime i put them on this website they come out this size. whats up with that?
