So I am replacing the gasket around the fuel unit that is attached to the tank with 8 screwS. In taking them off I snapped off 4 of the heads. I am left with little stubs that won't budge. Not much meat left to get a grip.

Drilling and tapping probably not a good idea as sparks love fumes haha. Tank is about empty.

Thinking about getting some self tapping screws and just going to town?

Getting a new tank is not an option......

Any ideas? These gaskets go all the time and the screws are very brittle and soft. Love to hear feedback or look at a writeup.

    Thanks!!!!

FWIW get a can of PB Blaster & spray liberally on/around the stubs. Let it soak for several hours maybe even overnight. Add more if it looks like it is draining away. Then use vise grips to turn the stubs. When you replace them use a little anti-sieze. Just my $.02 worth.

If you are worried about blowing yourself up, just clean the tank out really good. Then fill it with water. Drill and tap. Good to go.

So I got all but one retapped. Do you think I will be ok with 7 of 8? Should it make enough of a seal? Also, should I run some silicon between tank and new gasket?
