I bought a 96 Reg cab Tacoma, 2.7l. It has what looks like a 2" spacer lift in front and blocks on rear. I'm saying to replace the shocks and wanting to take off the spacers and blocks. It has 265/75/16's so I need to clear them. Just do mild off-roading. Everything I'm looking at isn't recommended for the Reg cab. What you recommend? 5100's on stock coils and aal in the rear? Is there another option on replacing the front coils also? Thanks.

Welcome to the regular cab club! They may not be fast or bristling with raw torque, but they are VERY capable off roaders, even stock. You can use 265/75r16's without a suspension lift. On stock wheels there will be minimal or no rubbing, so feel free to get rid of the ghetto-ass spacers & blocks.

The front suspension is the same for all 1995.5-2004 6 lug Tacomas. Doesn't matter what cab. As for rear suspension, 1995.5-1997 have shorter leaf springs than 1998-2004 6 lug Tacomas. Only the model year determines which leaf springs you have, not the cab style.

Wheelers Off Road, Headstrong Off Road, Toytec and many others have lift kits that fit your truck. There are so many options it's impossible to recommend one. But it's worth the wait to save up for good quality parts, it sounds like you already realize that spacer lifts are shite. Good luck and let's see some photos of your "new" truck!

I'm thinking of going with 5100's all around with the aal for the rear. Would the aal be the same for all the 1st gens or is it a different length for my 96 as well?
