So my 3.4 is leaking oil bad and burning oil too and i think it might have a coolant leak somewhere. I think this motor is on the way out and I was wondering if its more cost effective to rebuild and upgrade to a SC or find a Low mile TRD motor with the SC attached and just swap. Any info is helpful thx guys

Early v6 motors do not handle boost well, thus I don’t think you should go supercharging it.

Maybe you can chime in @Speedytech7

I believe it’s some crap dealing with the ecu on models from 95.5-97. Call LCE in AZ they should be able to point you in the right direction they’ve made a 5VZFE 500hp n/a and they’re a dealer for superchargers for our trucks.

Ive heard that the 96s had an. EGR and because of that you cant use the 7th injector kit from URD. Was wondering if I could swap a newer motor into it and get rid of the EGR so i could get the 7th. Thoughts?

Lots of engines had the EGR, even up to 2004. Depends on if it was a Cali spec car, or if it was one of those special 48 state federal trucks that came with it.

My PreRunner was sold as a California spec'd model at the Fremont Toyota and had an EGR. My 5-Lug was sold in Sparks, Nevada and was 48 State Federal emissions spec'd. Both had EGR valves.

just check if you have egr.

95-96 ecus retard too much timing under boost. youl need to swap s 97 ecu in.

i turbod my 96 a year ago. 100% worth it. truck rips now.

    Yeah. Little block off plate.

Your issue isn't the EGR. It's your ECU not being able to handle boost effectively.

Did you put a later model ECM in or go with a stand alone? If you went with a different ECM, which model number did you use?

Just swap in a better motor platform like the 3rz or a 4.0 or a 2j

Depending on your wrench turning abilities you could always save some money and find one locally but you risk not knowing the history of the engine or you could spend the money with some reassurance that you have a top quality rebuilt engine. https://www.yotashop.com/toyota-3-4l-5vz-fe-v6/

I’m sure they would have an ECM to go with the engine available or you could grab one off of these guys—->http://www.ranchotoyotatruckparts.com/

There were a couple model numbers, even for '97, if I'm not mistaken.
    Can you be more specifc?

Also, did you go with the F/IC 6? If so, would you mind if I PM some questions?

97 ecu as long as it matches your drivetrain v6, auto, 4x4. you can use a 4runner ecu too i believe.

    i have a fic6 and a urd harness

Yes a 1997 ECU works perfectly with no issues. 1995-1996 will not work supercharged with the original ECU.

So, here's my deal: I have a '96 and am trying to get everything ready for a supercharger. Currently I'm running too lean (LTFT in the 14 range) I bought an F/IC6 and boomslang harness with the hope of tuning in more fuel as well as simply getting an idea for what I was doing before I invest in a charger. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work (truck wouldn't start) I sent the F/IC in to be bench tested and AEM said it was fully operational, so I contacted Boomslang and they wouldn't give me the time of day, except to say that their product was not the problem. So I bought an ECM from a '97 #89661-04310 to see if my ECM just didn't like the F/IC. No luck, same problem, truck would crank and crank but never started. What I'd like to know is if there is another ECM I should be using or if (this is my theory) the wiring from Boomslang was somehow wrong. @devinzz1 are you willing to share your wiring diagram so I can check it against what I have?

does the boomslang harness have the 2 resistors in the harness? see first link.

Boomslang harness came with no resistors. AEM gave me several options to try as far as resistors, none work. Maybe I'm understanding things wrong, but I was under the impression that the truck might throw codes/run poorly, but it should've at least started with the unit plugged in. I was never even able to start diagnosing problems.

How do you do this with out having a code be thrown? I have mine blocked but P0401 gets thrown because it detects the pipe is blocked. Any way around this for 96 3.4L? For off roading of course:thumbsup:

You can bypass it with a resistor in one of the sensors, don’t remember which one exactly.
