I just started digging into putting my SR5 lighted cigarette lighter into my 96 Tacoma 4x4 and I noticed that the 2 wire cigarette lighter plugin is not there. There are two wires each with a blue wire nut from a previous owner, and 1 wire is gray/red, the other is white/black.

Are those the two wires for my cigarette lighter 2 wire plugin connector?

If anyone can post a pic or two of theirs and just where the wires come out from the harness would be great.

    Thanks!

the gray and red is power and the white and black is the ground.

previous owner must have cut the wires so just crimp on two spade connectors and your good.

for cigarette lighter I don't think it matters if they are backwards but the ground goes to the outside body of the lighter and power goes to center pin.

the two power plugs at the bottom are on one circuit that is fused under the hood and I "believe" the ash tray lighter has a separate circuit fused from the dash.

on our trucks they always use white with black stripe for the ground wires

Thanks keakar! I figured the white/black wire is the ground, but wasn't sure if the gray/red wire was positive. There isn't any power at the gray/red wire, so I will check the cig fuse on the dash first. Is there another fuse for it under the hood in that fuse box? If there is which fuse is it?

its not gray, that's actually a blue wire with red stripe

originally there are two wires there, one for the ash tray lighter and the other for the 12v power outlets, the one for the power outlets splits off into two wires a few inches before the plugs so it feeds each power outlet plug separately.

the power outlets I know for certain are fused in the fuse box under the hood, the ash tray lighter I "think" is in the dash fuse box.

since the wires are cut, one or both of the fuses may likely be blown, but can you figure out why they were hacking the wires in the first place? hopefully they didn't cut wires anyplace else :fingerscrossed:

my dash is apart so let me go see what I can see in there for you

ok the power outlets are red wire with black or maybe blue stripe and white with black stripe for ground

the ash tray lighter outlet is blue wire with red stripe and white with black stripe for ground

I don't see a fuse for it anywhere but the dome light fuse is under the hood too so that might be for it if your dome light isn't working.

worst case just hook the ash tray plug power to the power plugs, they can handle powering all 3 unless you plug something into all 3 at once that all draw good power
