Hi, I bought a single cab tacoma a few months ago. (Standard) it has the 2.7L 4 cylinder. The head gasket was blown and dispersed oil on the block. We disabled the top end and pulled the motor. The head had some undesirable cracks. I ordered and received a preassembled head, head (torque to yeild) bolts, LC engineering delete kit to increase oil pressure and not have to use the inner timing chain or the bearing in the back of the block. We also bought a fel-pro complete gasket set, water pump, and timing chain kit . I just wanted to see if anyone has any tips, previous knowledge, or questions. I'm definitely going to need help since I'm 15 and still learning!

I would recommend a OEM manual,, I got mine on ebay..
Make sure the valve shims are correct would be one main issue I'd concentrate on for sure,, don't trust that come with the correct shim.

Sounds like whoever is coaching you is doing well. Most kids your age can't drive manual and can barely fill a gas tank.

You need to be sure to give them a big thank you!

    Good luck with your build!

My neighbor checks over my progress, I thank him all the time. And most kids my age rely on their parents. Not so much for me

    Good luck with your build.

Your truck came with the Toyota Factory Service Manual? I think you're thinking of the normal consumer manual that tells you how to change the tires or tells you what the buttons do. The Factory Service Manual is what mechanics and Toyota uses to tear down and diagnose issues on the vehicle. It has diagrams of basically everything.

Yes. That is the one, I used it to remove timing chain and timing chain cover with it.

    Complete rebuild at 197k miles
I rebuilt my 00 2.7L twice... the oil pump shattered on first start up and I had to pull the motor again. Make sure you get a quality oil pump and pack the mess out of it with petroleum jelly.
