I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
maybe i should have done a thread on this but its so basic... anyway.
when I got my truck she had 170,000 plus miles, and little basic maintenance, why the low price, but the core of the truck was solid.
when I flushed the rad. I was not sure I would need a new one because the system was very, very dirty. (for my standards anyway)
got 2 pres-tone flushes. 14 gallons of distilled water. Asian safe antifreeze.
drained her, did one standard flush. drained and refilled 2 times getting the truck warm, not driving and draining.
then used the 2nd flush for one day driving around slowley. not pushing or revving the truck hard. got her warm, and let her cool off. did this for one day.
then got her warm drained, and flushed with distiled water 3 times, warm, cool off drain, refilled. till she ran out nice and clear. then refilled with antifreeze.
now before the LAST STEP.... REPLACED BOTH UPPER AND LOWER HOSES AND THERMOSTAT.
i pushed it with the chems to see if i could pop or get hole in the rad. so I would know if she might fail before i replaced antifreeze. so far in the very warm summer, she has been fine. i figure i will replace it again this fall with a flush to recheck everything.
if not flushed good you can and will get build up in the block that will slow or block the flow of coolant and air, I had no problems refilling, if i had I would have either used another flush to sought more experienced help.
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER
USE Any KIND OF RAD. SEALANT IN A CAN. YOU MIGHT AS WILL JUST SHOOT THE MOTOR.
and take back all the waste fluids to the auto parts store. i did, if they sell it they must recycle it.
