So, After my last post, the next day after work the Truck started and idled! I was able to drive it to Autozone and have them clear the codes, make another stop and go home (all about 15 miles...).. then i decided to clean up the engine a bit, and hit it with some foaming engine de-greaser, let it sit for a while, then hosed it off. I was as careful as one can be with not getting water all over the spark plugs n distributor, etc.. and just sprayed the block where the bad grime was. Well, of course the next morning the truck wouldn't stay running. So, after work I figured I'd try the truck again, and low and behold, it started up and idled. So i check for vacuum leaks using the spray something around the hoses method, couldn't find any leaks, Brought it back to Autozone to read the new code it made when it didn't start for me that morning, and got a Starter Coil / Misfire code (P1300). The guy said was probably wet from me hosing it down, and now that it dried, i was good to go. So drove it home, no problems!

This morning, It started and i was able to drive to work (ALMOST)... it died on me just at my driveway, and would not idle after that!

I haven't tried it since 8am, hopefully, it will get me home. I am at my whits-end with this thing! I NEED it to work, because it is my only source or transportation. I have had to barrow a vehicle during the week to go to work. I really can not afford to bring it to a dealership to have it worked on, so i HAVE to find the issue and fix it myself.

I have not tried messing with the EGR, from what I have been reading, i don't think it is that (i could certainly be wrong tho). I'll see if i can get it off and cleaned. Also, I plan to clean the MAF sensor this weekend as well.

So, that code P1300 was "Ignition Coil #1" so i changed the ignition coil and guess what, STILL GETTING THE SAME CODE and the truck will not stay running. I re-cleaned the IAC thinking it maybe was still clogged up, it is most certainly clean now.

I am loosing my freaking mind over this thing. I HAVE to get this thing running. And I can not afford to tow it to the dealership or professional. Anyone have any revelations for me?

Well cleared the codes, let it crank up and it ran for a couple minutes before stalling again. Checked the codes and only getting the P0300 Random multiple misfire. My cousin suggested maybe the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) may be bad... he instructed that I unplug it and see what happens. Low and behold, it stayed running and would not stall out. It does run a little rough and hesitate when accelerating, because that is what that sensor is supposed to help with. BUT not idle stall. So, I'm going to go replace the TPS tomorrow. Wish me luck, after this, it may be a trip to a junk yard to find a EMC.

Have you cleaned the battery posts and checked the battery voltage ?
A fuel injected truck needs good voltage to run properly .
Did you remove the battery posts after cleaning the throttle body .The computer in your truck has to relearn how to idle after you clean the throttle body . Always a good idea to remove the battery posts .
Look a little deeper into that missfire code.If its dark outside , you can try spraying water at the wiring when the truck is running and you will see shorts to ground . Clean all your ground wires .
For the hell of it , I am gonna throw the book at you . Check it out. It will tell you everything you need to do to properly diagnose your missfire . Not only changing the plug wires but making sure the wiring to and from the computer are functioning as they should and the wiring going to and from the ignition coils are good. When you remove the throttle position sensor wiring plug , the computer in your truck uses a default setting in order to keep the truck running and this is why it runs at high idle . The computer in your truck thinks the tps is completely worn out and uses a default setting so you can get home .As mentioned above , throwing parts at it is not the proper way to diagnose your issue . Clear that missfire code first
If you plan to keep the truck , invest into a cheap code reader and a digital volt ohm reader .Your truck is OBD2 compliant so you could go with an Ultraguage or scanguage and be a happy camper . look into these as well

How do i go about relearning the idle? I have removed the battery terminals, and cleaned them.

if you removed the battery posts after you cleaned the throttle body you are good to go .The computer in your truck memorized the idle pattern for a dirty throttle body .Removing the battery posts clears the memory in the computer in order for the computer to relearn your new idle pattern.a day of driving around and it will be relearned

Tested the Crankshaft Position Sensor with a multimeter, it tested ok... 2200ohm at the sensor, and power the connector from the vehicle.
Tested the Throttle Position Sensor, it had a dead spot at the Idle position, so i went ahead and changed that. The car idles ok till it warms up and has run a bit. Then it dies. I can see when driving, when i let off the accelerator, the RPMs will dip low, then jump back up to running idle speed.

I did disconnect the battery for a while to reset things.

I am still getting a P1300 "Ignition Coil Primary Feedback Circuit" that is now the only code it is giving. I have changed the ignition coil, distributor Cap and Rotor already. The coil goes inside the distributor.

What am I missing here. I really do not want to change anymore parts.

The link I sent you with the factory Toyota manual for your truck .
Save that pdf to your desktop or lap top for future use . Go to page 336 and follow the trouble shooter for your code P1300 . Considering you did the basics without any improvement, plugs , wires and dist cap and coil , I would be willing to bet you have a damaged wire rubbing against ground somewhere . The troubleshooter will help you find that loose or corroded wire .With this said , it clearly states on page 336 that if your code p1300 comes back every time , there is a short from the igniter to the ecm . All you have to do is find the short which can be a needle in a haystack .Look for loose wiring where your wiring harness plugs into your ecm . look for spots where the wiring harness may have rubbed through and is now touching the frame of the truck .
You have a dvom and will need it for troubleshooting
Good job with the TPS sensor !!!!

Here is the manual just in case it didnt show up in other post http://web.archive.org/web/20101127014333/http://ncttora.com/fsm/1996/96_repair_searchable.

Since my last post. I have changed out the Crank Shaft Position Sensor, also had to change out my starter. Had a pretty bad oil leak at the valve cover, so changed out the gasket on that. Also I changed out the Idle Air Control Valve.

So... Still no Joy. At this point, it will crank up and idle. I can put it into drive/rev. and it will go, but when I give it gas, it sputters and stalls out. I have changed everything I can think to change, as far as sensors go. I have tested the Wires to each of those sensors and others both at the Sensor End and at the ECU end. All get the proper voltage. I have tested the sensors resistance and all test OK via the Manual's specs.

I don't have access to a OBDii reader at this time, so I can't tell if it is giving other codes at this time.

The only thing I haven't done is change the ECU. Is there a way to figure out if the ECU is actually bad without replacing it first?

looking at the last date, it's not fixed yet. I had a problem with my camry after it warmed up, stalled at stops. It was the EFI Coolant Temp Sensor, ECU uses to adjust fuel to cylinders and also the Vacuum Switching Valve-part of the EGR valve system-EGR Vacuum Modifier. Watch the video for the idea to figure out where and part number of EFI Coolant Temp Sensor you need, buy one replace it, test it if you can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWd4_l706to Good luck
