Hate to restart a slightly aged thread, but did you have to get the system flushed? My 2000 do the exact same thing and I can replace the clutch but do I need to flush the whole system? Thanks

Simply replacing the clutch does not require disconnecting the coolant lines. But I guess its theoretically possible to do while the compressor is still on the vehicle, but I've have not done it. Do a Google search.
