Hi thereTacoma friend, first of all, thank youtacomaworld for letting me sign up. I have a situation where I am stuck and confuse now. My 98 2rz engine blew up on me and I went out to get another motor and got a 2002 2rz motor. I notice that these motor are different, what do I need to do to convert this to run the 2002 ECU. I gotthe 2002 harness but I notice that under the glovedepartment where the old ecumenical is at, therescouple plug that the new ecu doesn'thave. I really need your help...been walking to work the pass few day..need to get thistruckgoing.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
There are a lot of changes from 98-02 it would be easier to use the new engine with the old harness and computer. You may have to swap your old injectors to the new engine and there may be a couple sensors that need to be swapped over. Most notably the valve cover will need to be swapped so you can move your spark coil brackets and wires to the new one.

Oh cool I can do that? I did a research and some guys says that the newer 02 2rz run different spec in the cylinder? So I will messed up the old ecumenical with the cylinder? Or is it all the same? I found this "note that the intake camshafts used different part numbers..not sure if the cam profile changed or if something changes as far as cam sensor pick ups..so cam swap may also be needed. I think throttle body/IAC may not be compatible..but not completely sure..." I'm very confused, do I need to do that?

    This the other I found.>>>>>

To comply with the LEV requirements, the following changes have been made:

    • The shape of the intake port of the cylinder head has been changed. Valve timing has been changed. Along with the change in the shape of the intake port of thecylinder head, the intake manifold has been changed. A compact, 1-coil type IAC valvehas been adopted. An exhaust manifold made of stainless steel has been adopted. WU-TWC (Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter) is used. Compact, fine-atomization, 12-hole type fuel injectors have been adopted. The DIS (Direct Ignition System) that provides one ignition coil for every cylinder has been adopted. Air-fuel ratio sensor is used.
