    Hi everyone, new member here.
I recently bought a 98 SR5 Extracab and did a box off resto along with new paint and went thru the whole truck. The only problem I have is earlier in its life it had been in a wreck and for some reason it is never had a headliner put back in and is missing the cardboard panel etc. So it is incredibly hard to find one in salvage and no one will ship one( not even Greyhound) with its oversize dimensions except for truck freight which is extremely pricey. Anyone have any ideas?

And if somebody could tell me how the headliner (for a 1998) is fastened/attached along its front edge it would be nice... It feels to me as though it were glued, but I didn't try very hard to dislodge it.

the problem is (I was told) it is held in by the back window as well as some "hidden" clips in the front so the back glass has to come out to remove and install it

Not glued in.You literally have to take every panel ,light ,mirror ,sun visor ect. off to get it down.I recently took mine down to sound deaden and install a overhead console. These are pretty good thick durable ones compared to the thin crap one that was in my 2010 4Runner.

Might help to know where your located to see if anyone on here can help. Because as you stated they are way too big to ship. I have an extra one in tan from my parts truck but I'm in Okie land.

I am located in Green Bay, WI. My interior is tan as well but i am not fussy. I can can always use tan fabric paint or recover it. The problem is finding the cardboard part.

Too far from me. I'm dismantling one, xtra cab and probably get the headliner out tonight or tomorrow.

Call your local junk yards and check your craigslist listing. That''s where I will sell parts first. There is another wrecked one on my CL now that someone is parting, plus I know where a wrecked one is in Texas. They are out there being parted out.

I have searched high and low at all WI salvage yards and scoured Craigslist. There is barely any Tacomas in them. Which shows they run forever.

On my 00 and 98 the headliner tucks under that rubber window seal about 1/8 -1/4" and then there's 2 plastic round clips in the back.Took those down last and slid headliner forward out from under the rubber.

Going back up carefully tucked the back in with a putty knife in after it just had the visor clips holding it in front.

I have'nt taken a rear sliding window out yet but will get to that probably this weekend.I did read how to do it in the FSM.

Your truck is looking good!Be patient ,you'll find some local. Keep calling junk yards.

I pulled that headliner from my parts truck last night and did some PN research on them. The one from my ext cab parts truck I just pulled is a 63310-04040 E1 (oak) and has the 3 cutouts for the map lights in the front. The one in my ext cab green truck is a 63310-04030 E1 (oak)and I don't have the map light option and have 1 cutout. These are the part numbers for 98-01's ext cab oak color ones.

Here's some pics as there are factory sound deaden pads glued to the roof under there too. I took my pads off and lined with dynamat and 10mm closed cell foam when I had mine down on the green truck to sound deaden.

The part numbers for the 95-97's and the 02-04's are different then the 98-01's but not sure what the whole difference is or if they are interchangeable.Yep, yours is different then mine as there was no clips holding it in,just tucks under the rear rubber window trim .

Thanks for the info. I am missing the front pillar covers and the drivers side plastic piece that covers the 3 mirror bolts.

Only 856 miles away . lol
The headliner is too big and fragile to ship unless there was a box specifically made for it. I put 4Runner inside mirror bolt covers with tweeters in mine. They aren't a perfect fit but fit pretty close after you trim/ mod the bottom piece a little like this....http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/index.php?article=25
    and like these...

Well i will throw it out there anyway. I am willing to pay a good buck if u are willing to go through the trouble of boxing it up and shipping to 54208. I have the map light option as well. I would need whatever clips etc that go with it.

I don't even know where I'd even find a box that big. Maybe a body shop or dealer that got a hood in.This is the sticks up here in okie land. Just moved here from Dallas last year where I had more connections. No promises ,I'll check into it.

You can bend it back as I read somebody else on here had the same thing from being rear ended. The bucket seats in my parts truck are rough! It was a farm truck.
