I looked at a '98, 4wd, manual trans 3.4L with the all silver early style superchager on it tonight that's for sale in my area. I've never had any experience with a supercharger in general let alone that one and well, at idle with the hood open it made an interesting noise. I wouldn't say it made a knock or a click or anything but it made a noise I'm not familiar with. Definitely wasn't the blower type whine which I could hear for sure when I test drove it. Closest thing I guess I would say was it had a very minor almost sounding knock but it was a very dull type almost thud type of knock. Trying to explain a noise in words on a forum is kind of a joke but still... those of you with these superchargers, do they make any type of not normal good condition running engine noises at idle? Any idea if that's normal?

Also, I wasn't exactly blown away by the power? It was on probably 33" tires with stock gearing I'm assuming and while it got up and went, it just wasn't the power house I guess I'd expected it to be. I ran it up to 5K in both 2nd and 3rd and while it got up and went I just wasn't super impressed. In comparison I'm used to a completely stock 3.4L auto in an '04 on 35" tires running 6.0 gears and it honestly felt comparable. I know the ultra low 6.0 gears gives kind of some hard fake acceleration but I was expecting more out of it being supercharged.

Any thoughts? I'm looking at this truck for my parents who are in the midwest and trying to find a nice rust free Tacoma to tow behind their motorhome and well, me being in Vegas, rust isn't exactly an issue at all here. LOL Obviously I want to do them right though with my choice and well, the supercharger while cool, the noise was a bit odd as if I hadn't been supercharged I'd have been concerned for sure but for all I know maybe it's a normal noise. It definitely sounded like it was coming directly from the supercharger, almost near the pulley at the front even honestly.

    Thanks,
    Khris
