I have a 98 tacoma 2.4L stick shift that i recently did a head job on. Once I finished putting it back together and test drove it, I noticed that it would shut off on me when I would shift gears and also the radio will turn off and signal lights would sometime work.. I replaced the throttle body think it would solve the problem with the truck cutting off on me and checked all the fuses for the radio and lights yet still have the same problem. Please help what can I do.

Sounds like an electrical problem if the radio is shutting off. Check the battery voltage with engine running. Maybe there is a loose/bad ground wire somewhere. There is a ground wire from the battery to fender, and another from the back of valve cover to the firewall.

Check battery cable is on tight, ohm out the ground cable from the engine. Make sure the engine is grounded to the truck body.

I have seen a car with no ground strap on the engine run pretty bad.

Thx I checked the ground and I still have the same problem. Someone told me it's the ecm.

Specifically, which ground wires did you check? And what did you do to check them?

Have you monitored voltage with the car running and driving it?

WHO told you it is the ecm? They very rarely go bad in Toyotas. Does it make sense that a bad ecm would cause the radio to shut off?

I actually replaced each ground. The one on battery and valve cover and on the block itself. Check the voltage and a friend said that his uncle had a similar problem and changed the ecm to solve the problem.

there is something loose somewhere, try wiggling the various harness's, engine compartment and under dash, while she is at idle.

The ecm was good before the head job?

What about wires at the alternator?

It still sounds like an electrical problem. Signals and radio are not related to ecm.

    Reserected from the dead.
There is a ground on the back of the head, its often missed when head work is done.
