    I've just upgraded to 33 inch BFG T/A KO'S and my brakes leave a lot of be desired (tires also rub on passenger side sway bar only but that's another problem). My question is, has anyone found any evidence of people trying to upgrade our 1st gen brakes with calipers from something other than a tundra? I've read days into this subject and all swaps reference tundra calipers and rotors. There has to be another rotor/caliper combo that will work behind a 15 inch rim. Maybe a set off a 2nd gen taco/4runner? Anyone have thoughts, comments, advice? Anything is helpful. All the empty searchs are making me go crazy

    Possibly some type of gm brakes? I know there's a couple other gm componets that we've made use of On our trucks. Only thing is, it still has to fit I'm behind a 15 inch rim. Which has really caused me the issues in this project

    I have never heard or read about anything other that tundra or sequoia upgrades. Remember, whatever caliper you use has to mount to the stock spindles. That is a big limitation on what you can use.

    There are a couple of other things you can do to enhance or improve what you've got though. One improvement would be to replace your rubber brake lines with steel braided lines. When I did this I noticed a significant increase in braking power.

    Also, if you have lifted your truck and have not raised the BPV arm in the rear, raising the arm by the amount of added lift will get the braking balance back to where it was from the factory by forcing the rear brakes to help with braking.

    Thanks for the info, I'll be looking into the steel braided brake lines. does an upgraded fluid do any good? I've read a few places that people have bled out their old brake fluid and put in a high quality one and that helped them a little. And is the BPV arm adjusted by using the rotary dial on the rear drums?

    I've just researched the BPV arm and it would appear that I nMalabar make relocation bracket foR it. My only question now is whether or not my body lift makes a difference? I have a 3 inch suspension lift and a 1 inch body lift(supposed to keep the 33's from rubbing but whatever). Do I need to correct the BPV arm for 3 inch or 4 inchs of lift?

    Awesome, I didn't figure it would. So I'll fab up a bracket today when I get off work. Any helpful hints? I found a thread where a guy outlined how he made his and I was just going to follow his write up but alter the lift compensatio Just a tad

    I cut the arm for my BPV in half and bent a little hook at the end pointing down. Then tie wrapped it to the bottom of the bed loosely. I then drove down my gravel driveway and jammed the brakes on hard periodically as I tightened up the zip tie each time until I could get all 4 wheels to lock up simultaneously, front first. Then I did it on pavement. Voilà, proportioned brakes. Must add a disclaimer: I never haul anything I can't pick up myself and put in the back. I also run a fiberglass topper.

    Edit: I live in the south and snow/ice isn't an issue. My truck doesn't have ABS, either.

    Used a piece of predrilled steel and made my bracket. I can lock the tires on dry pavement now. Couldn't do it before even on wet pavement

    used to have - 99 2.4L I4 5 lug & 04 prerunner v6
    this is good to do no matter what, old fluid can lead to the internals starting to rust so swap it out for clean fresh new fluid but I would go back with the original fluid DOT3 or DOT4 (because it is designed to replace DOT3 fluid) but I wouldn't use any of the fancy new fangled stuff. our old systems may not work well with it since newer systems are all neoprene rubber and ours is regular rubber so when in doubt stay with what you have been using.
