Hey everyone im new to the forum but I have visited it often for answers to many problems I have come across. I have one new problem that I just cant seem to find the answer to. I recently bought a 1998 Tacoma 4x4 extended cab and wouldn't you know it had a rusted frame. I purchased a used from from a guy off of craiglist and I had it sand blasted and powder coated.
I started the swap Friday and everything was going smoothly until yesterday when I went to set the engine and trans on the new frame and the motor mount brackets appear to be a half inch further back than the ones on the old frame thus keep me from lining up the trans mount on the crossmember. My truck is a 2.7 5 speed and I believe that the guy I bought the frame from told me the frame was from a truck with a 6 cylinder engine and possibly an auto trans (not sure on that part). Is there any kind of different mount or bracket that I can use to make this work? I really don't want to have to cut the brackets off the freshly powder coated frame to move them forward. Thanks for any help resolving my issue.

cant you just unbolt the 6 cylinder motor mounts and bolt on your 4 cylinder ones?

if not then yes you will need to cut those off and swap them with the ones from your old frame

just mock up the full setup, engine, tranny, drivetrain, to be sure everything fits right, then get it recoated because I wouldn't be surprised (and most likely will) if the tranny mounts need replacing as well

I was wondering if they would interchange like that but I don't have a 6 cylinder engine to know for sure. It appears that moving the perches on the frame is going to be the only option. It sucks but im to far into it to back out now. Thanks for the reply

well im pretty sure the v6 tranny mounts wont be close to whats needed for yours and the full mockup is what you want to do because im sure there are going to be lots of other things needed to be tweaked or adjusted with a BFH (big "f" n hammer) :sawzall:

besides, its going to be a lot easier to work on it all without the body in the way

If you have the clearance and it is only the transmission mount .

i would modify the cross member to work .

To me that would be much easier then moving the engine mounts .

If need be build a whole new cross member

It is going to be more then just a drop in swap

Not impossible but not plug and play
