My brother has a 98' tacoma 4x4 and the key won't go to lock and pull out. He can put the key in and start the truck and turn it back to acc but then it won't go into lock and pull out. We've tried switching between gears and making sure it's in park. If we disconnect the battery, the key comes right out. Any solutions?

definitely sounds like the computer (or whatever controls the has-to-be-in-park-to-pull-key-out) is malfunctioning.
My friend had a similar situation. None of his brake lights work, it was very hard to take the car out of park, and he had a very hard time turning the car all of the way off when in park. Turns out the brake pedal sensor was not seated correctly.
