Hahaha, honestly i saw crack pipe price when i read that it has a d44 and a v8, fuuuuuck that noise! My friend has the same drivetrain in a zj and we cant run certain trails in moab this spring because he breaks a RP evrey time on pricette canyon. Meanwhile my toyota junk that has $1000less in front axle parts than the hpd44 turd, i have no worries. 20k for a parts breaking machine would suck, but someone will buy it im sure!

And if i get into v8, fuel cell, links and coilovers, the hell with using a toyota as a vehicle to package that in, im going buggy or chopping down an old full size truck at that point.

You've got a solid point there. A true diehard third gen pickup guy would have nothing other than a 22RE or 3RZ in his mini truck :D

That's impressive that you could know the location by looking at a random pic. You must really like it over there :D

Why the fuzz about the price? Bet you have spent at least just as much on your rig over the years :D

Your friend must wheel like a maniac or his gear installer should be fired. I don't think the red toyota has ever had a ring gear failure and that thing has wheeled all over AZ an UT including Moab for sure.

And what about the benefits of having a V8 with links and all the bling in a lightweight platform that can be street legal? I do not see the appeal of going to a full size truck at all - unless I was into mud stuff. Also, a buggy will not be legal to be driven on the street in most states. So I think a toyota is a great platform.

    You guys are relentless LOL.

Any die hard can change his mind the minute he drives a lightweight rig with links/coilovers and a V8.

@slander has mentioned a few times how wished he would have gone with an Atlas 4 instead of the drama and all the money spent with his duals. See...even the most committed toyota purist can have a change of heart :D

Currie who built the axle did them twice. He does not wheel like a maniac.

Well....good off the shelf gears have never broken in the red toyota with a V8. So go figure:rolleyes:

Everything boils down to choosing one's way of spending money. Many guys have 20 grand and more easily in their vehicles building it little by little. Others prefer to buy something already built.

First of all, thank you for your service.

I'm so late to the build thread, but I want to say that it's a damn fine rig you got there. I don't know much about SAS but your builder looks like he had some really quality craftsmanship. Im always jealous of the guys that can fabricate and put together rigs like this. But anyways, subd for trail pics.

Thanks for your kind words about military service and my rig.

It was an interesting journey getting the rig built. I enjoyed being involved with all steps of the process. The builder really put things together quite nicely; very talented.

I think the most important part of a SAS is to learn what you want to accomplish and to stick to a plan. From there you learn more about the parts you need and how everything fits together.

highres_467140150.jpg We did a christmas weekend run yesterday. I never take pics but somebody from our group did, so here's a few.

I made it up ok, the big tires helped a lot negotiating the boulders. But a few people in the group had to take the bypass on this one.
    600_467119906.jpg

There was another tacoma in the group, IFS with 33"s. He took most of the hard lines as well and did very well. The rest were Jeeps. Some of the Jeeps were pretty built and running on 37"s

And also learned that I need to extend my front drive shaft a couple of inches :frusty: Good thing it happened towards the end of the trail :Ddriveshaft.jpg

    merry christmas back at you!

Most of everything worked well :D The brake MC started leaking all of a sudden. Loose fittings. Quickly retightened all fittings and problem solved....that and the drive shaft issue.

Saw this idea online and decided to give it a try since I had a bunch of water bottles at home.

    water bottle.jpg
Here's what I did for the filler neck:

    watter bottle filler.jpg

Not the prettiest of solutions but it works :D The only negative is that the bottle only holds 28oz - compared to the OE one which holds almost a gallon. Still, it should be enough for a day's worth of wheeling.

Longer dshaft has been working good. Custom sway bar will be next.

On a different note...those Nitto Grail Grapplers really have very stiff side walls. I usually air down to 6-8psi and the tires look as if they are still fully inflated . Could probably go lower but don't wanna risk it without beadlocks.

By comparisson, when I had BFG's KM2s, at around 20psi the side walls would start bulging.

Air them down to 10 or so psi and drive it around town for a week or so to break the tires in.
