Good Lord isn't that the truth.

How much time do you think it will take to get the small things finished?

    Sure looks killer though!

Really don't know! Hopefully sooner than later.

When people say create a budget and then double it...better listen to that! :D

What are the plans for your build?

So true.. I saved $28,000 for the build and only starting when I have all major parts needed in garage, I'm not a welder so a big chunk was saved for my buddies Fab shop, Install, custom Shock/bumpstops towers, front tube bumper, sliders etc. Updated list is on my Signature Page.

Sounds like a good plan. I also had most of the big parts before the build started. That saved time and $$$

buying used tires also saved a ton of money.

Went to the shop and the truck is actually done. Really excited about it.

I could have taken her home, but my builder wants to drive her for a couple of more days to break in the gears (they did the install as well) and to ensure everything is good to go. That's the kind of professional work one can appreciate. They don't want me driving her unless she's completely ready.

Was only able to get a couple of pics of the rear end as I had to run to a meeting. Today my builder was doing final adjustments to the hydro assist before taking her out on the highway:

The truck has a very nice stance. I like how it turned out, it sits just perfectlty on those 40" tires.

And I really like how much clearance I got from the rear end.

    Wow is that nice.
Is the extended brake line long enough for the amount of flex you now have?

I too saved and gave myself a budget to get mine built. And, like you, I had all hard parts prior. I did need to purchase the pitman arm, frame plates and some brake lines during the build which didn't amount to much. What killed me was the car rental for 2 1/2 months when it was to be a 2 week build.

Having another vehicle surely saved me some serious coin.

My build came to about almost 6 months give or take. But they were not working on it everyday all the time. And there's far more involved with 1ton axles and big tires. More cutting, more measuring, more things to figure out because there's less space with the bigger axles. Had I stayed with toyota axles the build would have been completed faster.

The brake line is plenty long. I think it looks shorter on the pic than what it is.

Thanks man. You should check in with Wyatt at RockSolidToys (if you haven't done so already). He has done SASs on several 2nd Gen Tacomas and he is really the authority on building those trucks. You guys have to deal with a lot of the issues with electronics, and Wyatt has figured all of that stuff out. The RST forum is very small, just a few users active, but people are really cool and the KNOW a lot about SAS.

I got lucky that my 1st Gen didn't even have ABS LOL. Mine was pretty straight forward when it came to electronics.

Trust me I am very eager. Wanna make sure that it's really to roll before I take it on a trail.

Osvaldo- The spook Rally is happening on Halloween weekend end of this month......any interest in testing the Taco on a casual trail there on Saturday the 29th and camp about 1 mile from the event?.......The Rally is happening in the lower flat campgrounds but I plan to skirt around the rally and camp out on top of a good sized hill that allows a good night view of their campgrounds. You are welcome to join me...bring your own cot and blankets......I can also supply a cot if you don't have one....... A nice casual night with a bottle of wine enjoying the stars and talking SAS stuff. Doesn't get any better.
Get a CB and get a 9 foot antenna.....

Cool. I'm curious what the estimate is they quote you on labor. Thought about what you want to use for your front axle?

Wish I could make it man. Sounds like a cool event.

Thanks man. I'm happy with the results of my build.

In terms of having a shop do the work, everything has pros/cons. I have zero regrets about having a pro builder work on my rig. With a demanding career plus being in the military I had absolutely no time or desire to tackle such a huge project on my own. I do my own maintenance though. but man, a SAS is an enormous project - especially with links and big axles.

Shop around and make sure the shop you choose has a good track record with builds. Look at the projects they have going on to see what they are capable of. Quality Fab work ain't cheap, so be ready to pay for it :D

also, I hope you are going with 1ton axles in your build. 2nd gen tacomas are wider and heavier than the 1st gens.

I do not really know about how to make your diamond axle work.

Search for "Silver Seven" double diamond build. It will come up on different forums. It's the only 2nd gen build on diamond axles that i've seen on forums. Really cool project Perhaps the guy documented how he made the diamond axles work.

Cool I will try and find him, I found bullaculla on here that is building my twin in a 2013 with the same Diamond axle and All-Pro link kit. He is differently ahead of me on the build and I'm hoping to lean on him for some info. Oh and those 40" look so clean makes me a little jealous...My 37" look tiny now..haha Thanks again
