It's sitting in a box. This is literally what my truck looks like right now.

I've actually got the stock MAF, supra MAF and the 99+ MAF... going to go with the 99'+ since i found a 99'+ injen intake for $30 on Amazon a few months back and it solved my custom intake problems.4runner.jpg

Brice can you or someone else help me with my pin setup from stock pinout to 2001 DESNO pinout.
I found one conversion but the wires are a different color than mime.
My truck is a 1997. Thanks in advance

My wire colors look different than what I have found for other OEM wire pin setup.
Anyone know how I pin my wires going from 1997 to the 2001 MAF sensor?
Apparently the wires are NOT all the same colors from 1996-1998
The two wires on the right are the same color with the same color strip on mine.

Are the wire location all the same for 1996-99 and just the colors different?

photo of someone else’s conversion but the wires are different colors than mine.

I’m guessing with my color it would go like this using the 2002 photo below as reference.
    Pin1 brown black strip
    Pin2 yellow with green strip
Pin3 white with red strip that is in slot 4 from the original pin out
    Pin4 Brown with white strip
Pin5 white with red, this one does not get moved
Or do you change the pinout by location using the 2001 pinout as reference.

I'm not sure how you'd go through with making a 01 maf work on a 97, i believe they work quite differently... but i may be wrong.. when i get home if i remember i'll get the 01 and 97 Wiring diagrams for ya.

The 96-99 have that dam bullet inside blocking the airway and the sensor is not removable.
I just found out about this item and I bought a 2001 Volvo S60 MAF used for 30.00
It’s the exact same unit without the bullet inside and the sensor is replaceable.
So the inside dimensions are exactly the same as the 1997 Toyota dimensions, so hopefully the ECU will read it the same as the original and that this will work with a 2001 DESNO sensor after its repined and will not have any lean issues with an unrestrict tube section.
I’m boosted at 10 pounds so hopefully this makes a difference.
The Supra and the Tacoma 2000 forward MAF tube section has lean issues because they are larger and reads the air as going through slower thus runs lean and needs to be programmed with an add on to compensate for this.

    Thanks for that info
Ok so this is the pin out of the two years 1997 and 2001
I’m not the best at reading the correct wire colors from the 1997 to the 2001 locations as the 2001 wires are a different color
I don’t want to mess up my ECU by wiring it incorrectly.

The one photo is the way another person did it with my color codes.
Is this correct? Thanks in advance.
I’m pretty sure this is the correct setup now
Repinned for the 2001 sensor as shown with the PIN number below

Pin 1 is on the right side

Pin1 white with red, this one does not get moved
    Pin2 Brown with white strip
Pin3 white with red strip that is in slot 4 from the original pin out
    Pin4 yellow with green strip
    Pin5 brown black strip

Hey all I'm working on this mod.
Trying to figure out the re pin for my 98 3.4 M/T(manual).
I have stock airbox with deck plate and elbow(fender) open. Air raid intake tube, volvo maf/toy 99-04 sensor.
I've had the supra maf in for years(which was pinned same as stock).
my truck recently failed smog(lean/high nox vac leak or tune...
So I found this thread and decided to switch from the super maf.
I re pinned to the 99-04 per the pics but it didnt fire up at 1st-
Then after adding throttle it fired and had high idle 2k and fuel trim +20 so i powered off.
At 1st I'm figuring manual trans is slightly different pin placement?

But since it turnsover I'll use my r4 software and retune...now that more air coming in.

Re pinned for 99 I've got from left to right:
    Brown/black, yellow, red, black/white, white/blue-grayish

So assuming pin one starts on the outer edge of the connector and is the colors white/red stripe, then you have something wired incorrectly. I believe your 98 should match the 97's pinout posted above in the stock configuration. This picture is for a 98 but seems to match 97 as well. Wiring should be: white/red stripe, grey/red stripe, yellow/green stripe, brown/black stripe and brown/white stripe starting from right to left when you are facing the top of the connector where you depress that latch to remove it from the MAF,

    Here's mine now.
Pretty sure wires were changed for 98 and that why 96-97 were having some issue and guys going out and getting 98+ ecu for this mod.
    So I dont have the brown/white or grey/red as I have white/grayish blue and a black/white.
It runs and drives but I'm having to retune pretty drastically. With R4 software a cell of 10 being neutral..I was at 9.7 with supra maf and now looks like 9.1 with this mod.

So 2 or so wires in wrong pin or just needs to continue re tune.
It's also sticking in open loop at idle after driving off and on at 1200rpm.

    Thanks for help!

Ah its a 4Runner, my bad. This should be it. Looks like white/blue stripe is the only correct one.. The order seems to be white/blue stripe, red/white stripe, yellow/green stripe, brown/black stripe and black/white stripe

Well I was able make the pin change Brice and it started rough-needed some throttle. cold start open loop at 9.5 afr.
So I changed some fuel cells out but still rough and low afr.
Could be that it was cold start and/or need to adjust trims still...but,
The previous pin configuration(as I pictured) was idling way more normal/stoic 14.7 open loop startup etc.
So not 100% this is the correct pin configuration yet.

Need to be sure for 98 4runner M/T

The fact it starts and idles and stays in open loop means the ecu is not getting the feedback it needs for closed loop. It seems now it is. Do you have a way to check MAF voltage in and out of the sensor? I generally see 1.2-1.4 volts at idle but I have the newer 99 MAF. In and out should match assuming nothing is modifying the signal. It would also seem your particular 4runner combo with the manual has a narrowband o2 sensor, which are extremely difficult (in my experience, on my 99 auto) to tune. What are your trims like?

I just realized Bruce too took me back to 97/98 stock pin arrangement...
So I'll go back to the 99-04 as it was running best then.
    Br/ylw/red/blk/wht
Assuming things will settle after learning the new air.
With the supra maf I remember I had to retune drastically to get fuel trims to be zero so I'm assuming same process for this maf now.
