Hello all. I have a 99 PreRunner 2.7L. I just learned that my engine uses a timing chain and not a timing belt. Does anyone know, generally, when a timing chain should be replaced? I have 208K miles and have never changed the timing chain!

Also, I average about 300 miles per full tank. Is it this normal or should I be getting more mileage? How big is my gas tank? Thanks!

The timing chain never needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is why I love this forum...get quick answers right away!

Really though? My timing chain never needs to be replaced? Im just concerned because I heard that a broke chain could damage the engine so I figure Ill do preventative maintenance and change it out. But that's good to know it never needs to be replaced. Is there any maintenance that needs to be done to the timing chain? Seriously though, I never have to change it? Thanks :)

The chain will last as long as the engine. Eventually it may rattle a little and you can replace the guides if you want, but that's about it. And your mileage is normal.
