Hey there! Unfortunately I’ve been having some issues with my Tacoma prerunner, 3.4L with 299k miles.

She’s been running great up until a few weeks ago when she started misfiring and threw up several codes. I noticed that she was sluggish at the throttle. Rough RPM idle. And on the highway the misfire cause some serious vibrations.

The codes that popped up are P0305(Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected), P0171(system too lean Bank 1).

what I’ve done so far was clean the MAF sensor. Replaced spark plugs, coils and wires(it was time to replace them). After this I still had the misfire and engine shake.

I was a bit stumped as of what could be going on. So I looked into the possibility of a bad injector since it has the original OEM’s.
Checked the resistance on injectors 1 & 3 (same fuel rail as 5). 1 & 3 had a resistance of 14.3 OHMS. Then injector 5 measured 18.5 OHMS!

From this test Cylinder 5 injector could be the cause of this misfire. I think it’s odd see a high resistance.
Is 18.5 OHMS “normal” or is it a bad injector?
    Can anyone share their knowledge?

as the coils inside the injectors age the resistance increases... the P/S bank isn't too hard to replace just that one injector or you could swap it and see if the miss follows the injector. The lean code is "probably" due to the bad injector.

One of my injectors (#5 I believe) read around 18-19 ohms while the rest all read around 14-15 ohms. I had a P0305 CEL. I replaced them with a set of rebuilt injectors from MotorWest in Canoga Park, CA. No problems since.

    4 run, 2 don't
Could've just moved the injector over the same way you'd move a coil pack over and see if the misfire changes the cylinder it happens to.
