Sorry for bumping an old thread. Was having the same issue with my truck. Had changed plugs, o2's, and yesterday replaced with an a1cardone reman and the thing runs like a champ. Wanted to say thanks for the info.

TOYJOETA and aldoraine - it's been a long time since either of you wrote your posts, but I figured I'd try this anyway...

My '99 4Runner has the same symptoms you guys had. It has the same 3.4L V6, by the way. This afternoon I replaced the plugs (with NGK Iridium IX's, by the way), but no dice - it still stumbles at full throttle. Also, aldoraine, you mentioned your truck exhibits a slight pinging when under a heavy load. Mine does the same - and in case anyone's wondering, no, I'm not lugging the engine in too high a gear (it's a manual).

So - as a kindred gearhead spirit - I'm glad you guys got to the bottom of it, but aldoraine, in your last writeup you don't mention if it also solved the pinging problem. Did it?

Thanks much to you both for taking the time to write your experiences up here. It's truly a huge help.

Don’t drive the truck nearly as much as I used to, but it’s still drives great after changing out the maf. I still pull it every oil change and hit it with some maf cleaner just to keep it clean.

Thanks, TOYJOETA. That's sounds like a smart practice, and I plan to do it from here on out.
