If you went the 2wd route, it would be MUCH cheaper. Tacoma Prerunners have the nice ride height of a 4WD, and the Prerunner TRD off road has a locking rear diff which can greatly help get you out A of a bad spot

 

If you're on a budget, sexy isn't the only selling point. Go first gen and get sexy +power and reliability.

 

Fair enough. I like the body style of the older tacomas. That 92 is really speaking to me. It's got the body of a 95.5 Tacoma (maybe a little smaller).

I dunno, maybe I like it because it reminds of something out of Raising Arizona or Mad Max, two childhood favorite movies of mine

 

Look at 01-04s. I love the grill and personally think they look the best (not only because I own one)

 

I don't need much power honestly. I need to be able to go up mountains since I'm in the foothills and we do get snow so I'll need to be able to do that. The 92 has 4x4 which is great. Yea the 3.0 isn't great but I could switch it out at some point no?

 

Yea we are talking personal preference now. I much prefer this to any 01-04.

 

This man speaks the truth, you have no idea how many people have put themselves into bad situations chasing something that does not exist without a lot of work. Why do you think you see so many resto mods hit the market for much less than the cost of the build immediately after they are complete?

 

You could, but on a budget and (no offense) a seemingly lower knowledge on vehicles, it's just not the smart financial option.

But if you're looking for a project truck to learn on, it's perfect

 

Great points. Do I need a lot of power if I'm only needing a truck to haul musical equipment and some heavier things like a couch or mulch/firewood/random bulky items? I think not. If I could talk down that 92 truck I think it would be worth buying since it fits the body style I like. I drive to DC, Ohio, and other road trips so I will be putting a lot of miles on it.


I can pass on the 99 with 320 and I can pass on the red 92... But I'm just saying, I don't need much if any off road power

 

I like the idea of making the 92 a project truck. I could beef it up if I needed to but it's probably fine as a daily driver. Same with the 99
