As the title states I have a 99 Tacoma that has an air bag light that will not go off. I jumper E1 to TC in the under hood diagnostic port. I’m getting 5 codes.

14- open in D squib (drivers airbag)
53- short in P squib (passenger airbag)
    54- open in P squib
73- short in P/T squib LH (driver seatbelt)
74- open in P/T squib LH

I have access to the Toyota Repair manual. I have so far tested the driver airbag and seatbelt circuit. There does not appear to be a break or a short in either circuit.

I have been unsuccessful in clearing the codes in the airbag ecu using a jumper and alternating ground between TC and AB.

about 6 weeks ago we drove down some very bumpy fire roads (washboard) . Since then the light has been on with the exception of random times the light will turn off and stay off for several miles.

I’m leaning toward the ECU being faulty, but I don’t really want to start throwing parts at the problem until I have a solid understanding of what is happening.

those of you familiar with the plugs on the SRS system will know that each plug has a “shunt” feature built it that engages when the plugs are separated. So tracing each wire is a bit difficult. The Toyota diagnostic flow chart calls for installing paper between the shunts and pins. However some of the holes the paper needs to go in at smaller than a mechanical pencil lead…

I’ll take any advice I can get
