Had my 99 4x4 Tacoma out for a spin. I slowed down to make a stop, and suddenly noticed that the truck was running but was not in gear.....any gear. I stopped, and tried to move the truck in all gears. Nothing. I could even put the tranny in any gear without depressing the clutch!!! I began fooling around with the 4x4 tranny and gearshift....by engaging and unengaging the 4x4 and shifting from low to hi with the 4x4 tranny. All of a sudden the truck is back to normal. I have been driving it for weeks now with no similar problems. I'm completely baffled by this. Has anyone else ever had this occur? If so, what is going on? Its a 3.4 L V6 with manual tranny and manual 4x4 shift.

I can only guess somehow you bumped the transfer case into neutral.

Maybe it was just not fully engaged in 2wd and popped out
