Well I guess I've been living under a rock, but I just found out about the frame recall this week. I have a 99 Tacoma v6 Manual, 4x4 Limited Edition, 160k. Drives great, life is good.

From my research I missed the 15 year window. I moved to DC in 2010, but the truck was in San Diego from 99 to 10. Bought it used in 2005. So I never received any recall letter or notice.

Anyway - am I out of luck?

I did take it to the dealership about 1.5 years ago for a full inspection but they never mentioned a recall. I'm feeling a bit screwed by that, but I never asked for a rust inspection.

Likely being in San Diego for so long it wouldn't have been under recall

IIRC the recall applied to trucks originally sent to states with high road salt use

Thanks - from what I read that's true for the frame replacement for 01-04, but not for the buyback from earlier trucks.

I made an appointment earlier in the week with the dealership tomorrow, but with more research it's probably a waste of time. Time for an oil change anyway.

I didn't see any holes, nothing like the 'Swiss cheese' photos. But there is light rust, especially on the driver side. I'm no worried, but I need to sell it in the next few years and this would have been nice.

visible holes weren't required as it's more considered frame rot and it occurred from inside out

Part of the process was them hitting it in certain spots and seeing if they punched through

my frame on my '98 rusted clear through on drivers side, at rear shock mount. I fabricated a patch and built a shock mount. works like it should.
