    Clutch, trans, shifter bushings?
How’s your fluid look? Any glitter?

If there’s no debris in the gear oil and it’s not super old, change the shift lever bushings if you haven’t already.

All gears or just first? I would suspect the clutch in any case.

Clutch going out will cause slipping more than hard shifting. Destroyed bushings have a big impact on ability to shift gears and are cheap / easy to inspect and replace.

I would start with the shifter pivot cup bushing and the shifter shift bushing.

A failing pressure plate can cause hard shifting, it begins to loose capability to fully disengage, so shifting is difficult.
I had a 3rd Gen 4Runner where this occured, fixed everything easy first, hydraulics, shift bushing, even the pedal assy spring/bushings.
Once the clutch was out we could see the issue, clutch disc still had some life in it, PP was dead....(all orig Toyota parts)
