250 km into a 500km road trip I started to smell transmission fluid but didn't think anything of it because it was not that strong. Appon arrival i noticed a small puddle of tranny fluid underneath my truck and my transmission now has a faint whine in 4th and 5th. I'm 8 hours away from home, what are the chances of me making it home without a bearing seizing if I stop the leakage replace the last fluid.

Well that is pretty vague. Where are you currently and where are you going.
Do you know how to check all of your fluids? The manual trans fluid doesn't have a dipstick and won't be easy to check uness you can roll around on the ground and have some tools.

Yeah I have tools. Rolled around in the wind and rain and dumped the tranny fluid out roadkill style . I got royal purple synchromax tranny fluid and pumped about 2.1 quarts in (thankfully I was close to a Canadian tire). Noise seems to have quited down but is still present. I'm currently in lethbridge A.B and I'm driving home to Radium hot springs B.C. through the crowsnest mountain pass so hopefully she makes er!

Might be a regional dialect thing but do you mean gear oil?

Can you tell where it is leaking from? The rear output seal is the usual suspect on the 1st gen MT. Leaks down into the adapter for the transfer case. Best short term fix is to keep ensuring the MT is full until you can pull the transfer case and replace the seal.
