Got a 99 tacoma 5 lug with 2.4 auto. In the mornings, or when it sits, its hard to shift. Engin will rev when first starting out, then shift into second , rev until warm then shift into third. Once up to temp, seems to shift good. I have let it warm up for about 10 min before driving, and does fine

When was the last tranny fluid change/how many miles on the current fluid?

I had a '99 prerunner auto that when this happened the transmission pooped the bed very shortly afterwards. That said, that transmission was rode hard a couple times pulling too much weight & hadn't had a fluid change in way too long.

Fluid is good, not brown or burnt. Previous owner had Fluid changed at 60k at dealership.

I have a 2000 Tacoma with 145000 miles. Mine used to do that. I changed the transmission fluid and had it flushed out, still did it. Then changed it the fluid to Royal purple and it still did it. After many years of this I had a mechanic tell me to go back with the recommended transmission fluid from Toyota and to put transmission additive in it. It's been several years but I think he told me to use trans X. After I did that the truck went back to shifting normal.

Are you saying you put in a new transmission?

No, just changed the transmission fluid with Toyota spec transmission fluid and put in that additive
