    Hey all,
I've been reading through older post regarding this topic. I've got a bad wheel bearing on drivers side. This a is rwd, 6 lug, non abs. I don't really have the tools available to press the hub/bearings out and then install new ones. I would like to do the steering knuckle swap but I cannot find the entire assembly anywhere. Maybe I'm searching wrong but if anyone has a lead on parts that would be much appreciated. I have attached pics incase I'm wrong. I don't think bamaboy (Marionbumper2bumper) is making them anymore. 20250119_174351.jpg 20250119_174355.jpg

Also, you've already got most of the work to remove the spindle done there. Before I had a press, I just dropped my spindles off at a local machine shop along with the bearings and seals, and they did the work for around $200 bucks.

Get some new OEM lower ball joints while you got that all apart.

I was actually doing pads and rotors when I took this picture. I've buttoned it back up but it ain't much to take it back down. Good idea on the machine shop! If I can't find any assemblies I might have to do that.

As shops and labor rates vary, might also consider this and then you know it's done right and be setup for the next press job. Of course space is always a factor but its not that big. Throw on some casters and you'll be rollin'. https://youtu.be/H_7W78d-qB8?feature=shared

Yeah I should totally have a press set up. Even just this job justifies the tool. I've got enough tractors, equipment, and shit boxes to further justify it! And probably a master puller set as well! I've got plenty of space just not enough shed/shop built. I need to pour some concrete so I've got somewhere to work that isn't on dirt!

I don't have all those additional things to justify having the press, but I use it every chance I can  This past weekend, I rebuilt my pool pump motor and used the press get the bearings on and off. Could I have done that with hand tools? Sure... but I have a press...

LOL. This is man math 101. New tools equals more savings, any additional job a tool is used for is basically cash down on the next tool right?

100% the cost of a new pool pump motor ~$800, cost of the bearings = $25 bucks. "Honey look how much money I have saved us"

Definitely talk to @zippsub9. He does top notch quality work. I sourced non-ADD CV axles from him when I swapped over the PreRunner to 4WD. No issues at all, really pleased with them. When I was having issues tracking down a non-ADD diff tube, he came to the rescue on that as well.

I second that with regards to @zippsub9's work/product. He came through a few years back with fully assembled Prerunner knuckles with upper ball joints.

The thing all those DIY videos don't stress enough is you need 4, yes 4 massive steel plates to support the hub above the press base. Those plates cost as much as the entire press

I had no issues. I did have the following on hand, cant remember exactly what I used though.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015EEWUVI/ - $94
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YWBPWDS/ - $19
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003X5OJXS/ - $16

On the wood note, all I used were 2x4s - I didn't have any 4x6s handy. No issues with the press work and no issues with the results. In addition to the hubs, also did the bearings when I rebuilt the transfer case. No issues, everything is still working fine.

With some of the reports of people having bad results from shops doing the press work, I opted to do it myself. If I'm going to blame anyone, its going to be me lol.

Ya so 2x that $94 basically on top of the $250 press haha.... plus a bearing sleeve the correct size. I just experienced the pain of not realizing this requirement and ended up taking both sides to a local machine shop for 100 bucks. And this was after buying the press years ago specifically for this job lol. Would 10/10 use the shop again. Prolly wasted 3-4 hours trying to make my press work on top of that

I have had some drop right in and others absolutely sound like they destroy the press. I have learned a lot along the way and results may vary. I use a 40 Ton press as well and yes, 3x6 mild steel press plates for support. Keeping it all inline is key, any flex or deviation builds stress. It also sucks destroying a $100 bearing when it doesn’t work out and you have to try again.

Yeah, my suggestion is a shop also. I pulled my knuckles and took them to a shop. All good and he charged me a $100 total 4 yrs ago in Texas both sides. The front bearing job is more garden variety than the rear that's for sure. Might want to verify the shop is familiar with the nuances of the Toyota Tacoma front wheel bearing. If you take your own bearings and dont use their parts a lot of shops won't warranty the work, pretty normal. That is If they screw up the parts you brought during process. So check it out. Good luck

Those are nice man. Believe me I promise I would have rather bolted in a set that showed up at the door where somebody has done the legwork for a quality solution. But I'm a glutton for punishment. Lol
