It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
Prerunners will work. Just stay on Sand Highway or don't go slow through untraveled areas...don't try going up razorbacks at 10mph..you can't use rock crawling speeds. lol.
You'll be revving it up to get into camps if you don't air down enough and you hit some soft stuff.

    Air down to 12psi.

A prerunner can make it everywhere, it's all about the drivers judgement.

I've seen 4wds aired down get stuck in a spot, and a 2wd(or someone with a 4wd IN 2wd) go through the same spot...it's all about judgement at Pismo.

A locker help's a SHIT TON if your a prerunner (or you have a 4wd but wanna cruise in 2wd).

Whatever you do try to stay off the sand between the camps and the drop in to the dunes on mile markers 2-3. Alot of it is really soft and I've seen alot of people get stuck.

My buddies Duramax aired down to 12psi with a locker in the rear, in 4wd got stuck in that shit..with 550lbs of torque.
Saw a Toyota get stuck in it too once.

Im be sleepin in my truck, no point settting up a tent for just myself. Are we gona make a llist on shit to bring? Two of the most important things to bring are 1) a f%uking chair cuz im going to kick yu out of mine every time. 2) a bundle of fire wood for each night if u plan on crashing in the dunes. Its cold, very cold at night. Besides that bring what ever. I got a CB and straps, and i'll try to mount my high lift to bring. I got a 6' foldable table too.

I am noob when it comes to pismo. Do you have to reservation to stay on the dunes, how does it all work. How much is the fee? i heard their certian times you can cross the water and certain times you can? do they allow fires...etc.

Well you can't cross during high tide, when it's like 4' high but most the time you can cross whenever. You don't need reservations, you can camp out anywhere on the dunes as long as you can make it there. I think it's $10 for overnight. Just follow the rules, and pack your trash out or throw it away in a trash can or the dumpster by the entrance.

Depending when you go, you gotta be careful crossing the river during high tide. If the river is present when you go.

I'd advise not leaving or entering during high tide. I've seen diasters lol.

Yep, it's $10 or 12 or something to have your vehicle on the dunes overnight...I don't think their is a camping fee. You just pay the money to "park" your vehicle on dunes overnight..camping is included with that.

and YES they will check your tags..so don't get a day pass and try to stay overnight. The rangers do drive around and randomly check tags. The fine isn't cheap.

    Fires are allowed.
No RV hookups..if you have a trailer, gotta be self contained...need a generator, etc. No generators running after I believe 11PM.
Beach speed limit is 15mph. Yes they will pull you over if you speed.
Don't drink and drive. They will pull you over, and give you a DUI.

Coolest thing about Pismo is if you have lights and a tail light...you can run the dunes all night if you want.
It's fun out on quads in middle of night. It's funner in UTVs. :spy:

I've never ran trucks in middle of night except for Comp Hill on Saturday night during Thanksgiving(hundreds of trucks/buggies/rigs go out that night).
