Glad i found someone else in the SA area with a 4.0 that is interested in performance/tuning. The HP thing is seriously a game changer. Gonna tinker with the throttle mapping on mine this weekend and see if it will play nice with my UCON

    A money maker to.
Does it make any real performance gains on a NA motor. I know the speedometer correcting an throttle response is a huge advantage as well.

My plan is to start with just a tune, then start bolting on parts, starting with cam gears and try to dyno here and there to see if we cam put hard numbers on it.

Yes, ive read it can help with gas mileage as well with a proper tune. The options are literally endless with this. Basically a company finally cracked the toyota ECUs. Companies like URD have stuff like the UCON which is a piggyback ECU that just tricks the OEM computer into thinking it's running the truck.

This is basically rewriting your ECU with whatever parameters you want. Speed limiter, secondary air injection, and tons of Trouble codes/check engine lights can also be disabled

I’m anxious for your results. I do know once I regear an do the smog pump delete I’ll need the ecu corrected. I felt Toyota did a pretty good job tune wise other than the throttle response.

I’m familiar with tuning I’ve dabbled in it with the Nissan I had. I’ve also bricked an ecu before not a fun feeling.

You gonna be the one to install cam gears and then dyno to see the gains on a stock N/A motor?

I know some folks in the HP thread were talking about the gains from cam gears alone on a stock motor

I thought i bricked mine last weekend.. i was pissed. My brand new laptop decided to shut down during the middle of a flash.. Needless to say i plugged that bish in after that happened. Started it back up and reflashed it again from the beginning. It is a miracle that it still works imo. Thought i was screwed

It really is now since it’s all leaning against my shop wall lol. I’ve got some ready to go if I decide to reinstall.

Its pretty cool to start the truck up without that SAI junk. My AFRs are so much more stable now. They used to jump around all over the place while that thing was blowing. Now on start up, they both pop over to 14.7 and sit there. I am happy i no longer have to worry about that stuff failing me and leaving me stranded hundreds of miles from home

I’m hoping too if I don’t get beat to it with my work schedule. Closest dyno is Kyle where I took some diesels.

Ugh you lucked out big time.
The vendor I bought the tuner from failed to mention to disable any antivirus program before connecting to ecu an I was downloading the stock tune an it. The laptop screen went red an the gauges on the truck twitched an all the dummy lights came on. Went to start an wouldn’t even crank over. Had to take the ecu to the a tuner in ATX they were able to salvage it an gave me some pointers.

How does the dyno work? Im guessing someone else drives the truck on it?

I want to get mine dyno'd but i want to be the one that drives it since its a manual.. Im pretty in-tune with the noises my truck makes, so if something started to go wrong, i know i'd be able to spot it before someone else who was driving.. May not ever get to dyno it for this reason

This is what I’m looking forward to the most is getting rid of that an possibly adding another battery for the helluva it. Don’t really have any real use for one.
