Learning right now. Gonna try out @JustDSM tune later and see where that leads.

Took a drive and hit 130 on the intake air so maybe a snorkel to cool it down. :)

You gonna drive this truck offroad? If not, im running the URD intake, and it is a true cold air intake.. IATs are always at ambient temps now. Before this intake, with the stock airbox, intake temps were always 10-20 degrees higher than ambient. Snorkel should do the same, but URD will flow lots more air. Just food for thought

Very interested to hear your intial thoughts on the re-tune!

The URD scares me simply because it will be getting used for a hunting truck as well. Thinking of trying a CAI then modding it to work with a snorkel.

Snorkel would probably be a safer bet then! Looking forward to seeing you modify them to work together if you go with a CAI

    I haven’t plastic welded since I had a sport bike but I think I remember how :)

Do you use a soldering iron to do that?

I had an actual hot air plastic welder. I loaned it out and never got it back. They are like $60 at harbor freight if memory serves so I’ll buy another if needed.

Ok, got loaded up with @JustDSM stock tune this morning. I haven’t conferred with him since, so he will be reading this with everyone else lol. Initial impression is positive. I haven’t had a ton of seat time since the flash but overall drivability seems improved. I don’t think there are big gains to be made without bolt ons, but the power seems more linear than before. I’ve never had a pedal commander or the like so I can’t compare to that. The place I think most of the improvements happen are 2.5-4K WOT, seems to pull harder there than before (perfect for highway passing). I will be hitting the rollers on the 9th and we will see if it’s all in my head. Would I buy it again, I’d say yes. I’ll be driving more over the next few days and update. After I get on the dyno to get baselines the bolt ons will start. I’ve always run 93 octane when available so I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth now

Thanks for your honest review! Please continue to put it through the ringer and put it to the test.

No the tune doesn’t turn your Tacoma into a Dodge Hellcat, but I am happy you’re feeling the benefit from the improved fuel and ignition mapping. You’ll have to keep an eye on fuel economy too, I think you’ll see that improved a bit as well.

When you start uncorking the motor, I think you’ll see things start picking up!

Thank you man. Comparing your tune to stock in the editor is really helping me to understand gas tuning more. I am going to College Station Monday, and I’m gonna take the tacoma just to see how the fuel mileage plays out. Hopefully I will have some positive hard data for you to use. Looking forward to the cam gears, I’m much better at non computer wrenching

Narrowed it down to the TRD and the S&B. Pretty sure I can make either work with a snorkel. Both have positives and negatives. I’ll make a decision soon lol.

Cool, just looked up the s&b intake, never heard of that one. Is this the one you were talking about?

    https://www.sbfilters.com/cold-air-intakes/2005-2011-toyota-tacoma-4-0-intake-75-5095?variant_id=169

If so, the only thing to be aware of is that the MAF on these trucks doesnt like oiled filters. Not a problem if you just keep it clean, but if it builds up and gets dirty, it can cause hesitations, rough idle, loss of power. Just something to be aware of, most ppl run pro-dry style filters for this reason. Looks like a great intake though, and flows way more than stock!

Actually they make a dry version too.

    https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/392212555079

I got in on a group buy for them years ago for another project and was happy. Only thing is how the box attaches to the tube, may not be ideal for keeping water out. In all honesty it would probably work fine for what I have planned but why not go 100% lol.

Oh nice well thatll work great then!

Might as well seal it up good if youre gonna go through the trouble of modifying it to work. Where would the filter go with that? Im guessing the snorkel has one maybe? Im not too familiar with them
