A simple, but really cool mod happened this morning. My kids got me an Ellis Precision shifter knob for Father’s Day. It’s not something I would have bought for myself, but it looks great and it’s special since it came from my boys.

Did you have to cut that stud off the stock manifold where it mates up to the ypipe?

Well today didn’t go as planned. Had I not insisted on putting stainless ARP studs in, the header project would be done most likely. All of the old nuts came off easy, the old studs... not so much. Burned a lot of time with vise grips getting them out. If I had just put the headers on I would have saved a lot of headache.

I used the LS1 kit that contains 8mmx1.25 studs..... or it is supposed to. I noticed on the first one, it didn’t feel right. I backed it out and got my tap and die set. I could hand thread the factory into the proper chase but not the ARP’s. Here is the strange part. The new nuts went on both old and new studs, as did the old nuts. I spent some time on the phone with ARP with no resolution, they said what was happening was impossible. Since I destroyed most of the factory studs, I had to come up with a plan. I ended up rethreading all the new studs. I found they where correct only the thread was not cut quite deep enough. Here is what was removed from one. BD8A6238-FFE5-4684-B0D9-9B72F976D52A.jpg

I just walked in to get cleaned up to take my kid to Tai boxing class, I’ll be gone a few hours and might get back on it, or wait until tomorrow. I did get the passenger side hanging with all hardware in place, ready to tighten down when I get the drivers side the same, and the y-pipe back in place.

ARP is not on my list of favorite people right now but this guy is the MVP since I decided to do this on the hottest day of the year so far.

Thanks man, nature of the beast. My wrists are feeling the burn of all that rethreading though.

Thanks man, but it will sit until I get it done lol. The hard part is done now, I think I’ve worked out most of the problems. I dropped my y-pipe to make install easier and getting the headers in proved to be the easy part.

I’ll find out for sure in a couple of hours if I have any energy left after leaving the smoldering hot gym.

Well, I didn’t get it done tonight, but I did get both headers hanging on the studs and hand tight. I’m pretty sure the hard part is done, but after working almost 20 hours yesterday and sleeping for 4 last night.... I’m out of steam.

Tomorrow I’ll put the steering shaft back together, put the Y-pipe back in, and tighten everything down. Goodnight!
