I drive a 2005 Tacoms 4.0 SR5 and had a 2.5 inch lift installed and now my Upper A arms are about a half an inch from my front tires, I have stock wheels and 285/70/17 tires, is this normal?

You're lucky that they are only that close, 285s normally rub without spacers on stock wheels.
