Guys, was wondering if anyone can help me out. I'm in my last class of a Master's program in CIS and have started looking for jobs. Problem is most openings require 5+ years of experience, certifications blah blah blah.

I'm looking to get into either database administration or information/network security. I'm assuming I'll have to start lower but I'm wondering where most of you that work in IT started? Tech support, help desk?

Also was wondering if anyone knows of any database training books/software that would be good for learning Oracle DBA tasks. It's frustrating having an advanced degree and still having to start at rock bottom...

I hear dice.com is pretty good. Your college might also have some help.

Mostly though, you are faced with the current job market.

If you want to get into Network Security, then start learning Cisco.

For me I started off as an intern formatting PCs, got into a help desk, then web development, and moved over to networking. And that is where I sit today.
