    Hello everyone,

My a/c on my 2005 Tacoma has been blown for a few months and recently I put the time in to figure out the issue. I've determined it is the extremely rusted compressor hub. It is loose and I believe the spacing is incorrect. When I press the a/c button, nothing happens and the hub doesn't engage.

Today I tried to manually short it, and it did indeed start to spin and engaged, verifying that my electro-magnet is working. I did hear a lot of squeaking and it was wobbly. I ordered a new hub to replace it with.

I was wondering why it engaged when I manually did so, but won't engage with the a/c button.

    Thank you!

How did you short it? If it engaged, then I’d look further as there may not be a signal to engage the clutch or a wiring issue. Verify the relay is good and then I’d try jumping the low pressure cut off switch to see if it kicks on. If it does, then that’s the problem.

    Relay is
Relay is good. Going to replace hub and add some refrigerant to see if I can get any action. If not, it’s electrical.

Don't just add coolant. Do it properly with a gauge set and knowing what you are doing... Take it to a shop if you don't.
