been having to put refrigerant into the system the last 2 years; obviously there is a leak. This time I put dye in and scoped it with a UV light. Had to wait until today when I pulled the front wheel and splash guard off to get a look at the compressor. It looks like there's a leak behind the lower cap bolt in the pictures; UV light seems to highlight more things than necessary but the green dye is clearly visible in regular light.

my question: I'm assuming there is an O ring of some sorts behind that cap bolt. Would it be economical to that it apart at that point, replace the assumed O ring, vacuum the system and recharge or bag the compressor and replace?

Wow that is a lot of corrosion there!

As for the leak, each of those pipes have an o-ring seal behind it. You can remove the bolts, pull out the pipes, and replace those seals. Not a hard job at all.

As it's an '05, keep charging it and leave it alone otherwise.
I don't think the connector is leaking; the compressor shaft o-ring is spewing just a bit and air flow is spreading it around.
My guess is that if you pull those bolts it'll be worse.
I know green-thinking this is not, but a 9$ can of fridge each year....just make sure you purge the hose set you use so as not to introduce air...
    Good Luck
